All about BMX

BMX is a sport. BMX racing (bicycle motocross) has been around since the 1970s but wasn’t technically classified as a sport till 1993 when the international cycling union was formed this gave BMX a lot more attention. During this time with all of the recognition they got they were invited to the 2008 Belgium Olympic Games. 

History of BMX

BMX was originally inspired by motocross when motocross first became a sport in the 1960s. Bmx was a big hit and spread nationwide people loved BMX for its low costs.

What is BMX? 

BMX, BMX got this name in the 1960s for being so similar to motocross but with non-motorized bikes. BMX is a track with jumps and berms, you start with 3-8 riders in a gate and race the whole track whoever gets to the finish line first qualifies for the main and doesn’t have to race the next round, there are 3 rounds. Whoever gets to the finish line first wins.

Fun facts about BMX

In BMX you are only allowed one brake and can only have one gear. BMX wheels are typically 26-27 inches that is much smaller than typical bike wheels. While racing and practicing you have to wear a helmet, long sleeves, and pants or you can not race. Races usually don’t last any longer than two minutes.
