People are asking, what is a cosmic crisp? Cosmic crisp is a brand new type of applet that has been in development for over 20 years. The creator of this apple is Bruce Barrit. He is a horticulturist and developer of the Cosmic Crisp. The mission was to make a dream apple, an apple that’s firm, juicy and crisp. With years of testing and tasting with the help of the Washington state university world-class tree fruit breeding program, the cosmic crisp was discovered! 

Why cosmic crisp?

Naming the new Washington apple came with several meetings with consumer focus groups from around the state. Some of the meetings were held in Pullman, Yakima, and Seattle. The ¨cosmic” part of the unique name came from the well-defined markings on it that reminded them of stars and the cosmos. The second part of the name comes from the mother of the apple honey crisp. The honey crisp apple gave a good trait of crisp texture.
