Ways Utah is Helping With the Coronavirus

Ways Utah is Helping With the Coronavirus

In the past six months, the Coronavirus has been spreading all across the United States. Hundreds of thousands of people have died, while 7.26 million Americans, are infected with the virus. These are ways that can help stop the virus from spreading so quickly, and not only that, keeping you and the people who you love safe. It can also help life going back to normal, and who doesn’t want that? Here are tips and ways to help the virus from spreading so easily.

The first way is that the governor is encouraging people to keep their hygiene up, social distance, wearing masks is another really important thing. We need to do our part too and help fight the Coronavirus if we want it to come to an end. A campaign has started to decrease the number of cases that are going all across the country. This way, people are safer and it helps bring the virus to an end.

BYU studies show that wearing a mask is helpful. Not only does it protect adults, but it also protects the elderly and small children, keeping them safe. It helps bring down the virus, so when you go out, to make sure you wear masks. By wearing a mask, it helps keep you and others safe from the virus. Like said before, it helps stop the spread of the virus, and slows it down. Make sure to also put on hand sanitizer before and after you enter a store.

The Utah HERO project is where it tests 10,000 people across 4 counties. A recent study shows that you have a 12% chance of catching the virus from someone in your own home, but it’s a much bigger chance that you catch it out in public. It’s preferred if you stay indoors rather than doing social activities. It keeps you much safer, and you can do a lot of productive activities to keep you from being bored. Just be safe out in public.

You can help slow the virus by just simply washing your hands very frequently, social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, clean a lot of frequently touched items, and wear your masks. By doing these things, you would be helping to stop the virus from spreading so quickly, keeping you and others safe, and a bigger chance for life going back to normal.

The NBA’s New Announcements

The NBA’s New Announcements

                                                                         The NBA’s new announcements

The NBA has many new announcements about many different things happening right now. The next NBA season may or may not have any fans in the stands all around the country due to the Coronavirus. Many people are still hoping though that by next season there may be fans in the stands, but with all the crazy things happening right now because of the Coronavirus no one really knows. Although they have said this though there is still a very likely chance there will be no fans in the stands the whole next season. The whole next season does not really even have any plans. It is still up in the air whether they will be playing the bubble-like this year, or they will be playing in their own hometown courts. While they are talking about next season though. This 2020 NBA season is not even over yet. The final two teams have just barely got into the finals for this year. It is the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat in the finals right now the Lakers won the first game 116 to 98. There is still a chance for the Heat to make a comeback though.

After these final games though everyone will immediately start talking about what is going to happen next season. There are many other sports the NBA is looking to see if they can maybe pick up some of the strategies they are using to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus. The MLB may be letting fans in for the world series. As college sports start up again here too. There are many teams that we know will have fans at their games at least once this year. The NBA really wants to get some people in the stands. The revenue of the NBA and the amount of people watching has dropped a lot since the start of the Coronavirus season. They think getting people back in the stands will help with problems like that. There are also many questions about when training camps and things like that are going to happen. No one really knows right now, some people are also wondering when the next season starts. First, they said they are aiming for Christmas, but as the season keeps wearing on and more, more things keep happening they are starting to say it will probably start around January most likely. No one really knows what is going to happen this next season or what things are going to happen, but at least we are on the brink of finishing another great NBA season.

No Olympics This Year?

No Olympics This Year?

No Olympics This Year?

According to https://www.cnet.com the Olympics may be postponed until 2021.

Large numbers of sports have been canceled due to the coronavirus. Like the NBA, Golf, and many more. But now the Olympics (supposed to be in Tokyo) might be pushed or canceled until 2021. While the Olympics have been canceled in the past because of world war I and world war II, they have never been postponed for another year.

On Sunday, the Canadia Paralympic Committee said that their team was not going to head to Tokyo and wanted to postpone the Olympics until the following year. Then the Australian Olympic Committee quickly agreed with them and are now preparing the team for next year. Numerous teams have now said that they aren’t going to participate in the Olympics, so even if they had the Olympics, it wouldn’t be much of a competition. Unless you consider a small number of teams a competition.

On Friday, the USA team (Swimming), and the national governing body for competitive swimming, sent a letter to the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee urging the group to postpone the Summer Games to 2021. The Olympics are huge. Both in number and how much money is put into the Olympics. More than 11,000 athletes from 206 nations had been hoping to compete in 339 events. Many thousands more were planning on helping to work in some of the games, from food vendors and souvenirs vendors to hotel clerks to trainers and coaches. Many thousands of people were possibly planning to attend the games. NBC had even been set to broadcast the games in the US, even offering a dedicated streaming Olympics package for those who wanted to know as much as possible, with no ads. And as evidence that everyone was excited, tickets were sold out last July, thousands were planning to attend. Whether they were coming across town or across the world.

In 1916, the Summer Games were canceled due to World War I. The 1940-1944 Summer and Winter Games were canceled due to World War II. (Japan was the county affected too — the 1940 Games were supposed to be in Tokyo and Sapporo). But there were Olympics afterward.

The next games after Tokyo are the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, followed by the 2024 Paris Summer Games, and then the 2026 Winter Games at Milan and Cortina, Italy.

Cure and Spreading

Currently there is no vaccine to cure the Coronavirus. There are many ways people say that help it get better than where it’s current state is. There are also many rumors about how to cure it. I wouldn’t advise trying those rumors just in case it doesn’t work and it puts you in a worse position.

Something that might be good to know is that masks don’t protect you from it. If you have the virus it will stop you from spreading it. Also to stop the spread listen to what presidents and people in power of your state or country tell you to do. If you have the virus then stay in your room or wherever you are going to isolate yourself so it doesn’t spread to your family. Also never go to parties or friends houses because one of them or yourself at the party or house could have the virus they just don’t know and then you could get and maybe others that were there.

Protection

People can help protect themselves from the Coronavirus in many ways. If you don’t want to get it then follow these rules

Avoid close contact with people who are sick, who look sick, and who think they are sick

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

Wash your hands often with soap or water for twenty seconds. If you don’t have soap or water use alcohol based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

There you are, facts about Coronavirus that might prove helpful. Please try not to go anywhere and follow the rules that leaders around the world tell you to do so we can stop the spread. Stay healthy everyone and wash your hands.

Things to do When You Are Bored at Home

Currently, because of COVID-19, many people are stuck at home and are probably very bored. That is why I am going to show some things that can entertain you while you are quarantined at home.

Clean

Cleaning is always a good option to do when you are bored especially right now because of COVID-19. You could also organize things in your house to just make it a little bit cleaner.

Bake & Cook

Baking and cooking is something that will keep you busy while you are bored at home. You can even look up different recipes on this blog that you can do! Also, once you bake/cook your food, you get to eat it! That may be the best part of all of this… Here is a great cookie recipe to make!

Reading

Reading is great. It can take you to a different place. You can connect with the characters and really just get lost in the book. Some of my personal favorite books to read that I suggest are Harry Potter by J.K Rowling, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan, Divergent by Veronica Roth, and Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. Have fun reading!

Instruments

It is always fun to learn something new! Especially an instrument. Also if you already play an instrument then you could also practice it or learn a new song on your instrument!

Diy

Diy stands for Do it yourself. One of the best places to find Diys is on Pinterest. So, take the time to scroll through Pinterest to find a Diy to do while you are bored. Just make sure you have the supplies for what you want to do! Have Fun!

Movies

This is something I have been doing a lot! But, in my opinion, it is a very entertaining thing to do though. So, go curl up on your couch with a warm blanket and watch a movie by yourself or with family and friends. Just remember… stay 6 feet apart.

School Work

Though many may not like this, it is a very productive and necessary thing to do while bored and stuck at home. Most people right now are doing online school. Make sure you take your time while doing your schoolwork. Also, turn it in on time! And I bet that if you need help then you can email your teachers for help too.I'm Bored (SVG Cut file) by Creative Fabrica Crafts · Creative Fabrica

Thanks for reading this! I hope this article was helpful. Be aware of your surroundings and stay clean and safe!

What should You do About your Pet and COVID-19?

What should You do About your Pet and COVID-19?

What happened to the first pet to get Coronavirus?

Some people have never thought of this, but what if our pets get Coronavirus? Well, the very first dog to test positive for the virus in China has died recently. It was a 17-year-old Pomeranian. The dog belonged to a 60-year-old woman and died three days after returning home from quarantine. However, another dog living in the same home consistently tested negative during the quarantine.

Therefore, pets such as cats and dogs can get COVID-19. However, there should not be a reason to panic. The Pomeranian was an older dog and had traveled recently. Not to mention the test was a weak positive.

Can your pet give you COVID-19?

“No. I think the idea that we’re going to give this virus to our pets or we’re going to get it from them is just nonsense,” said Dr. John Williams, chief of the division of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Another thing said was by Schaffner. They said “We don’t have to worry about pets — this virus now likes humans but data show it’s not spreading among pets or farm animals,”

Both these quotes prove that our pets cannot spread the disease to us, and we cannot spread the disease to them. The only reason why people started worrying about this in the first place was that the very first known dog in Hong Kong got diagnosed with it.

After the dog tested positive, they tested several other dogs and cats for the virus and found that there were no positive results in any of the pets. So, therefore, the likelihood of dogs and cats contracting this is extremely low, as of right now.

What should Pet Parents Do About All This?

Embrace your pets. They can’t give you the virus, so “hug away” experts say. After all, pets play a vital psychological role for their owners, especially now because everyone is feeling so isolated and alone inside their homes.

This is definitely the best time to hold your pet close to you. Since you can’t go and hang out with any of your human friends, you can at least have fun with your animal friend

At least now you can be entertained at home with your pet. Especially if you’ve been busy recently. Your pet will love and appreciate you putting in the time and effort to bond with them more. Let’s keep our distance from our human loved ones just so we can be safe. But, if you need something to hug, go ahead and love on your dog, cat, bird, etc.

With everyone stuck at home, we may as well sit back and relax with our pet. Your pet will enjoy it as well, so why not? Plus, pets can reduce stress and anxiety. So just taking a break to play fetch with your dog, or sitting down to read with your cat asleep on your lap, or even watching your pet fish swim around. It can be very relaxing for you to watch.

Even if you are still going crazy with being indoors all day, as long as you keep your distance, you can take your dog on a walk around the neighborhood. Or take your dog out in the backyard to play with a ball.

In conclusion, we shouldn’t be worried about our pets spreading the disease to us. Instead, we should hold them close to us and spend as much time as we can with them since we can’t be near our other loved ones.

Coronavirus

Coronavirus

The CoronaVirus is becoming a big thing. It’s scaring lots of people. At Costco they’re running out of things such as plastic water bottle cases and toilet paper. People are stocking up. Here are some ways that you can prevent from getting the Corornavirus and symptoms of the coronavirus.

Number one, wash your hands with soap and water. Get your hands wet with warm water then get soap, rub your       hands together with the soap for about 20-30 seconds. Then rinse your hands under warm water. Another way is, always wash your hands before you eat or drink. It’s best to wash your hands when you’re out in public. If you’re not able to wash your hands carry around hand sanitizer. When washing it may work better if you don’t just rub the palms of your hands together, try to wash in between your fingers. You should wash your hands after touching your phone,      because you set your phone everywhere.

Number two, try to keep your hands away from your mouth, eyes and nose. You may come in contact with the coronavirus either through a counter top or a door knob. And when this happens and you put your hands by your eyes, nose, or mouth you have a better chance of getting it. If you need to touch your face try and wash your hands before doing so.

Number three, stay clear from those who are coughing or sneezing. Because the coronavirus is a respiratory system infection, coughing and sneezing can be symptoms. Additionally you just want to stay away from those who have any sort of respiratory system infection. When you sneeze in the air, it’s letting out some of the virus you have and if you sneeze on someone its putting the sickness you have one someone else.

Number four, don’t shake hands with people, that includes high fiving even if they don’t show symptoms. People are able to spread illness even if they aren’t showing or having symptoms. To protect yourself kindly tell people that you don’t want to shake hands with them until the coronavirus is over.

Number five, clean surfaces daily using a product that kills virus’ or germs. The coronavirus can stay on faucets, door knobs, and counter tops. To help clean the surfaces, use bleach wipes or disinfectant spray to clean these surfaces. Keep it wet with the cleaning stuff for about 10 minutes so it can effectively get rid of the virus’.

Number six, Open up windows to let fresh air in if the weather is appropriate. The coronavirus is an in the air virus, if you share a room with a sick person it’d be best to open up a window. If you’re not able to open up a window an air conditioner would work, but not as well.

Number seven, try not to eat as much food that has come from animals. The coronavirus is able to spread from animals to humans. If you do eat food that has come from animals make sure it’s cooked well so all the germs are killed. To make sure your foods are okay to eat chicken and turkey the temperature should be 165 degrees F, beef and pork should be at 145 degrees F, ground meat should be at 160 degrees F, and eggs need to reach 160 degrees F. Cook at these temperatures just in case, so you dont get sick.

Stay home if you start to get a respiratory system infection. It could be the coronavirus and it couldn’t be but its able to spread.

These are ways to detect coronavirus. Make sure to take your temperature, if your temperature is 104 degrees it’s either the coronavirus or another infection. If you do have a fever it would be best to call your doctor and discuss your systems. If you have shortness of breath or trouble breathing. If you figure out that this is happening to you, immediately contact your doctor or emergency medical care. If you have a sore throat or a runny nose, that is a possibility of a symptom.  Call your doctor if you think you have the coronavirus. To test for the virus, your doctor may do a nasal swab of your mucus or they’ll do a blood test to check for the infection.

If you are sick, stay home and rest yourself. So you can stay rested to get better and so you don’t spread the sickness you have. You’re always able to use a humidifier to thin your mucus and clear your nose a little bit. Also consume lots of fluids like soup, hot drinks, and water. Just stay hydrated.

Try not to worry so much about it if your not at much of a risk. Fake news about the coronavirus has made unnecessary fear. Just because the virus started in china, it doesn’t mean that we should treat the Asian people different.

Those are the symptoms of the coronavirus and ways you can prevent it.

The coronavirus

The coronavirus

The coronavirus

The coronavirus is spreading to the United States of America, the coronavirus is a worldwide public health emergency.

What can you buy to prepare…

A CNN article states, ¨Now, health officials say, is the time for people in the United States prepare.¨ Stocking up on necessities should be a priority. You and each member of your family should have at least a 2 week supply of food, water, and toilet paper. Water may become infected in some states or countries in that case you should stock up on safe water while you can get it. However, our water in Utah is very unlikely to get infected because we have a closed water system. Having an emergency kit should also be something you should include in your storage. Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Some good foods to include in your food storage include peanut butter, peanut butter can last a long time and is a great source of energy. Any dehydrated food or powder would also be great food in storage because when adding water it can turn back into its original form. Protein bars are also a great food to store, some kinds can last for long periods of time and are also a great source of energy. Any canned food would also be good, some canned foods can last for 6 or more years.

Schools closing…

If your kid is showing sick symptoms, have them stay home! Although the coronavirus symptoms may not show up till 14 days after, as soon as you or someone else shows any symptoms, have them stay home.

Observe surrounding schools and if they are closing or not. If they are you might want to play it safe and have your kid stay home.

How is the coronavirus spread…

The coronavirus can spread in many ways, say health officials. Coughing and sneezing onto one another is the most common way to spread the virus. Touching an infected person is also a common way to catch the virus. Staying within a 6-foot radius of a sick person or animal will help you not get the virus. Live Science explains how touching a recently infected surface may cause you to catch the coronavirus.

How can you prevent the coronavirus…

Avoid traveling to highly infected areas, such as China, Italy, Iran, Japan, and South Korea. These countries have the most infected population with a total of 110,646 cases.

Also steer clear of touching your mouth, eyes, and face in general. Always wash your hands after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, going to a public place, and especially wash your hands before you eat.

Hand sanitizer DOESN’T work. Hand sanitizer only kills germs, the coronavirus is a VIRUS, not a germ; hand sanitizer will not kill the coronavirus. Washing your hands is the most effective way to kill the coronavirus.

You will know you have it when…

You can be infected for up to 14 days before you realize you have caught the virus. Some symptoms are a high fever, a cough, difficulty breathing and shortness of breath. Light cases of the coronavirus may resemble the flu or a bad cold. If you think you have the coronavirus consider calling the emergency room or urgent care before you just show up. That way they have time to prepare for if you have the coronavirus or not.

How the coronavirus is affecting the economy…

The coronavirus has already affected the economy a bit, the airports in the United States of America will no longer fly to China and the airline delta is considering cutting off all flying to Italy. Anyone that works for or at the airport is going to be affected, their paychecks or bonuses are going to go down majorly. Think about all of the people that will have to stay home from work, if they get quarantined. They would lose those paychecks, some families rely on those paychecks to keep their family living. Stocks have also been going down since the coronavirus has entered the United States of America.

The Wuhan Coronavirus

The coronavirus. The wide spread disease taking the world by storm. It is said that it is a disease similar to a bad flu. This started in Wuhan, China in 2019. How did this start though? There are many theories, but now many people are saying it started in bats.

What is a Coronavirus?

A coronavirus is a family of viruses known for having strains that can cause potentially deadly diseases in mammals and birds. Some of the symptoms for humans are the symptoms of someone with a really bad cold. There are different types of coronaviruses including MERS(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome), SARS(Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), and A novel coronavirus which is a new type of coronavirus that has never been in identified in humans until now with the 2019 Wuhan coronavirus.

How did this start?

There are many speculations on how the coronavirus started. One of them is that it started in the seafood market. But when more people got it they started thinking it came from somewhere else. In a new study though, researchers think it came from bats because two closely related coronaviruses start from bats. Both of those coronaviruses share 88% of their genetic sequence.

How did this spread to Humans?

Coronaviruses are zoonotic which means that they spread from animals to humans. SARS started in civet cats then transferred to humans. MERS started in camels and transferred to humans. coronaviruses spread through wet air, the air from coughs or sneezes, close personal contact, or touching an object that has the particles of the virus.

Casualties

26 countries have confirmed cases of the virus with those being Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, The Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam. These places combined have over 31,000 people with the virus and 600 people who have died from it.

Evacuation

Many people have evacuated from China, but there are still citizens and tourists stranded there. Many places have shut down and markets aren’t restocking shelves. Many cruises and ships from China are now stranded until the coronavirus leaves.

Solution

A scientist working on a cure for the coronavirus says that there might be one. This will be available, at the earliest, at the beginning of 2021. Robin Shattock, the head of mucosal infection and immunity at imperial college in London, told The Brief’s Bianca Nobilo that his team was sharing information with others around the world trying to develop a workable cure. He also said that wearing masks doesn’t protect you that well from the virus. He also says that “ Mass use of masks may well be more of a problem than a solution,”.

In the end, this virus has surprised the world and affected it badly. With China being almost abandoned, to how many people have and have died from the virus. Finally, though, we might have a solution by next year.
