You have probably heard of the amazing artist with their famous paintings, but have you heard of why they made those paintings or what inspired their paintings? Or even where they painted these paintings who knows maybe it was in a prison cell. 

 

The Last Supper

The Last Supper was made by Leonardo da Vinci. This painting is a 15th-century masterpiece. The Last Supper is a recreation of the Holy Thursday, in which Jesus and his Apostles are sharing a final meal together before his death and resurrection. Although Leonardo da Vinci wanted to paint this painting because he wanted to show how one of his friends will betray him. With reactions of the apostles being in shock and rage. The 12 apostles in the painting are Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot. 

 

Mona Lisa

This painting was a masterpiece and was also made by Leonardo da Vinci. The painting was made sometime between 1503 and 1517. The Mona Lisa behind the painting is also known as La Gioconda, the wife of  Francesco del Giocondo. Yet the real-life Mona Lisa was… Lisa Gherardini is the person who posed for this painting. It is a visual of happiness with the word “Gioconda” in Italian. It took Leonardo da Vinci about 4 years to finish painting the Mona Lisa. There are two Mona Lisa’s that were worked on by Leonardo da Vinci. 

 

The Scream

The Scream was made by Norwegian Expressionists. What was the purpose of this painting? Well, many people thought it was his inner troubles and anxiety. The Scream was not stolen once, but twice! The first time the two thieves broke into the window and made off with the painting. The Scream was found after 3 months of it being missing. There are also four different versions of The Scream and they were all painted between 1893 and 1910. 

 

The Starry Night

The Starry Night is an oil painting on canvas. The painter was Vincent van Gogh. It was painted in June 1889. The painting was about the view from a window in his asylum room at Saint-Remy-de-Provence just before the sunrise, with the addition of an ideal village. The Starry night sold for 100 million dollars at an auction! When normally his work only sold for 80 million.
