California’s 9 Amazing Parks

California’s 9 Amazing Parks

Most states have national parks, but they’re all different, and the states have diverse numbers of parks as well. For example, the states with the most parks are California, Alaska and Utah.  California has 9 national parks, Alaska has 8 and Utah has 5. These create major tourist attractions for the United States. So what parks are in California?

The nine national parks in California are Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Redwood, Lassen Volcanic, Point Reyes, Channel Islands, Death Valley, Pinnacles and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park. So what makes them all interesting?

Joshua Tree

In Southeastern California you can find Joshua Tree National Park in San Bernardino County. The region is the native area for thousands of joshua trees. Which are especially  rare due to their location. Joshua trees are only found in California, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. Making it an incredible site. The park is famous for its trees, rock formations, plant diversity, animals, and human history. Entrance fees can be up to 30$! The entrance fee for Joshua Tree depends on how you get there; private vehicles have an entrance fee of 30$, while the fee per person is only 15$, and the motorcycle fee is 25$.

The redwood trees are rare as well, since they tend to only grow in California, Oregon, and Washington. Some of the trees are more than 350 feet tall, and up to 2000 years old! Additionally, at Redwood national park there is no entrance fee, so you can save some money by visiting Redwood. While still visiting a National Park.

Lassen Volcanic

Lassen Volcanic is in Northern California, near the cities Redding and Susanville. Lassen’s fees hit 25$ for a year-round motorcycle fee. But it’s only 10$ for a private vehicle for December 1st through April 15th. The motorcycle fee for the same 4 months as the private vehicle is also 10$. But per person year-round it’s 15.

Lassen is famous for its Lassen Peak, which is the largest plug dome volcano in the world, and the southernmost volcano in the Cascade Range. Lassen peak was the first volcanic eruption in the United States during the 20th Century. Unfortunately during the winter months the park is snow covered, road access has more limits, and most activities involve snow. So if you don’t want to deal with many snow-related complications or don’t like the cold, the best time to visit is during the summer season with the greatest access and selection of activities.

How to travel the correct way

How to travel the correct way

Having to plan a trip is very difficult, but when you have guidelines it can make the trip more enjoyable. Some of the things to factor in when planning is you should always plan ahead of time, plan according to weather, how to find the correct hotel, packing 101, rental car or uber, recovering from possible jet lag, covid restrictions, etc. These are all things to consider before planning your next relaxing vacation.

Planning in advance

You may know that to travel by plane, bus, or car you must plan ahead of time. When traveling you would do the same thing. You must consider when the best time to travel would be, when would it be less busy. To travel to Dubai, you must factor in when the least busy time to travel would be, in this circumstance this would be April and September. But you should also factor in when you shouldn’t go. For example, You should not visit Dubai in August because of its EXTREME humidity and climate conditions at this time of year. You should also plan out if there are any safety issues in that place where you plan on spending the next week relaxing. If they are in any cultural war or in any fight whatsoever that could put your life in danger. These are all things that you need to plan and think about.

Planning for weather

We all know that the worst thing when traveling is packing warm clothes when it is cold, or vice versa. I recently traveled to Hawaii, and on the plane, I wore a hoodie and some warm leggings without thinking about how hot it would be. As soon as I took one step off the airplane I began sweating. The best thing to do if you make the same mistake as I did is to pack an extra pair of clothes in your carry-on. A good idea when you are planning on traveling is to keep an eye on your weather app. We all know that different places experience different weather conditions and seasons, for example, Hurricane season. Many places are close enough to the ocean that they do have to deal with the consequences of living there. All I am trying to say is that watching the weather is very important when traveling, you don’t want to be walking in 90-degree weather in a hoodie and leggings. Trust me.

How to find the perfect hotel

Sometimes staying in a 5-star hotel isn’t always the best idea, but you also don’t want to stay in a 1-star hotel either. The more stars almost always mean $. So, in my opinion, the best hotels are the 3-4 range, 2-1 is too low and probably means bad customer service and problems with the hotel. You should also factor in where the hotel is in, is the area safe? Does the hotel have common issues? If you have kids does the hotel have a pool, or is it kid-friendly?

These are all things that are important to think about. Most of the time a newer hotel means it will be cleaner and up to standards. So when finding a hotel you should look for the location of the place, price, star count, and if it is kid-friendly.

Packing 101

When packing you should also factor in the weather, excursions, etc. If you are going to a place where you plan on walking around a lot like Disney make sure you bring appropriate shoes. When I went to Disneyland I wore some sandals and the next day I couldn’t walk because it hurt so bad. If you are going somewhere cold, bring jackets and gloves. If you are going somewhere hot, bring sunscreen. But one thing that most people do not know about traveling is that you should never wear Camouflage, it can be considered rude or offensive. In certain areas, you should not wear certain clothes that show too much skin. So make sure you check their religion and if the clothes you are wearing would affect the religion.

Rental or uber

Sometimes when you travel around your car may not be available to drive. Lots of people don’t like to use uber because of safety problems. Others don’t want to pay the amount for a rental car. So why not just walk? Well, it depends on where you are going. If you have a hotel booked on one side of the state and your destination is on the other side, walking won’t accommodate you. My parents recently traveled to London. For the first quarter of the trip they had a friend take them around, the second quarter they had an uber driver, the third quarter they walked, and the cycle repeats. So you don’t just have to stick with one plan the entire time. You just need to check the area you are staying in to make sure it is safe to take an uber by yourself, or if it is safe to walk.

Jet-lag

We all know that different areas of the world have different time zones. The biggest problem with traveling to a different time zone is experiencing jet lag. The dictionary defines Jet Lag as “ extreme tiredness or other physical effects felt by a person after a long flight across several time zones.” when I traveled to Oahu, Hawaii the time was 4 hours behind my home state time. So when I originally woke up at 7 in the morning at my home state I would be waking up around 3 in Oahu. The best way to avoid jet lag or make it so it isn’t that bad is to take lots of naps on the flight. Avoid eating when you’re not hungry, and only eat when you are hungry. Try to go to bed when the new time zone would be you originally going to bed.

COVID-19

Ever Since 2020, COVID-19 has been chasing our tails. Many stores require you to wear a mask, and for employees to have a COVID vaccine. In Oahu, I had to either have my second shot of the COVID vaccine or a negative test. To go on excursions, eat at the breakfast dining in, enter the hotel, or even EAT in restaurants I had to show proof, my parents even had to show a driver’s license. Some places are not available to travel to or have a small chance of shutting down before you travel. I say this because when I was in 6th grade my family had a family trip planned for Rome, this was of course right when COVID came into play. We had to get health insurance and had to plan to quarantine 2 weeks after our trip. Two weeks before the trip, it got canceled. Nobody could enter or exit. So if I would watch the COVID cases when your trip is coming up.

Money

I don’t have much information on this topic but I know that different countries use money differently than we do. I am not going to touch down on all of the different places but here are a few examples ( these examples are from the site Worldatlas.com)

  • Costa rica colon 100 centimos ( 1 US dollar = 600 colones)
  • Thailand baht 100 satang ( 1 US dollar = 33.27 baht )
  • Ireland euro 100 cents ( 1 US dollar = 0.86 euro )
  • Japan yen 100 cen ( 1 US dollar = 113.91 yen )
  • Bolivia boliviano 100 centavos ( 1 US dollar = 6.89)

These are just a few examples that I find very interesting. A US dollar can go a very long way or a short way depending on the place, so when traveling I would check the currency so you know how much money to bring.

How to pack for a fall travel

How to pack for a fall travel

The most important thing about fall travel is depending on where you are going to travel depending on what you pack in your suitcase. If you are going somewhere nice and warm you typically pack warmer things. If you are going somewhere that’s on the colder side then you should pack stuff for that specific weather.

What are you going to put your clothes in?

That is a great question when it comes to packing things, suitcases are the most common thing. Although You do want a suitcase to take with you, you might want other things too. Such as backpacks, or bigger purses. You are going to need a suitcase if you are going on vacation for five days or more. It’s always nice to have a suitcase and a backpack or a big purse. It’s not always easy finding the “perfect” suitcase or the “perfect” bag, so I’m going to list some great suitcases from the website awaytravel.com. Their suitcases are of great quality and they’re really cute too! They have a pretty good amount of colors to choose from. Colors like black, blue, green, gray, pink, and metallic. There are two different sizes to choose from. Carry on a suitcase, which is a small suitcase to take on smaller travels. Or they have a checked suitcase, which is a medium/ large-sized suitcase that is for bigger travels. They have so many choices to choose from. Their prices range from 225 dollars to 625 dollars. Aways suitcases are a little pricey but it’s worth it.

What’s inside the suitcase?

What are you going to put in your suitcase? If you get a suitcase something has to go inside of it. If you are going on a smaller trip and you are taking a carry-on suitcase it’s not always easy to know what exactly to put in it. Since carry-on bags are a lot smaller than the checked suitcase you obviously can’t pack as many things in them. But you’re not going to need as many things since you’re going on a smaller trip.

It’s a fall trip so we need to pack for that fall vibe. I’ve always thought that fall was all about dark colors, sweaters, and jeans but that’s not always the case. Although that is the fall aesthetic there’s more to that. It doesn’t mean that you can’t pack those things. It’s a shorter trip so we’re going to pack less. You’re going to bring one pair of pajamas for each night, don’t pack extra pajamas because you know that you’re not going to need extra pajamas. I am an over-packer that is just me. I can’t help but overpack. That being said, pack one t-shirt per day that you are there. It’s nice to have t-shirts but you know that you are not going to wear a t-shirt the whole day, especially during the fall time. That being said, pack one long sleeve per day when you are there. It’s going to be cold most likely because it’s fall time. Pack four to five sweatshirts no matter how long you are staying. It’s better to be warm and over-prepared than cold and underprepared. You’re probably going to want at least one coat so go ahead and do so. You probably want pants so let’s talk about pants now. Even if it is cold I always like to bring at least one pair of shorts just in case I work out or something like that. Besides that, I bring one pair of nice casual pants for each day that I’m there and one pair of leggings for each day I’m there. Since it’s fall time I tend to overpack joggers. But it’s a good thing because that’s what will keep you super warm.

Color choices

Color choices are the hardest thing about a fall trip. Fall colors are olive green, sage green, rusty brown, mustard yellow, black, dark purple, and like a cream time color. For your jeans, I would stick to your basic colors such as the typical blue jeans, black jeans, gray jeans, and white jeans or cream-colored jeans. For shirts honestly pack whatever your heart desires. For sweaters or long sleeve shirts, I would stick to your fall colors. Other than that, pick whatever colors you want for the rest of your clothes.

Packing can become a hassle but with these tips and tricks on how to pack for a fall trip your life should have become a whole lot easier.
