The Newsboy Strike of 1899

The Newsboy Strike of 1899

More than a century before digital headlines covered cities and streets, there were actually people who delivered these papers by hand. A group of kids, majority orphans, and some homeless, often worked from dusk to dawn just to survive. In the sweltering heat of the summer of 1899, these children decided they had endured enough exploitation from the titans of the newspaper industry. Their decision to stand up for themselves against publishing giants Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst would launch the largest child-led strike in American history. There was a lot of reasons why the newsboys decided to strike in the first place. The biggest reason though was that they raised their prices from 50 cents to 60 cents.

Background

The city of New York during the turn of the 19th century, depended heavily on the newsboys for newspaper distribution. Subscribers usually would get their papers early in the morning, but during the afternoons, the big newspaper producers would have the newsies sell. Most of these newsies came from poor and immigrant families and sold papers in the afternoon, or morning. The papers were sold at 50 cents per 100 papers, and the newsies sold them at 1 cent each, for a profit of half a cent per paper. The newsboy strike that I’m talking about now isn’t the only one there ever was. There was 3 before it, including those in 1886, 1887 and early 1889. The last notable strike that was held by the newsies was in August of 1899. It was the biggest strike against the World and the Journal. The year before it happened, the Spanish-American War increased the sales of the papers. Several of the big publishers increased the selling prices to 60 cents per hundred.

Early days

On the 18th of July, 1899, a group of newsies in Long Island City turned against a distribution wagon for the publisher New York Journal. They later declared strike against the papers of Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst in City Hall Park. When the newsies heard about it all the way from Manhattan and Brooklyn, they immediately joined on July 20th. They were brutal with this. Any man or boy found to be selling papers was to be mobbed by a group of the boys, beaten and his papers destroyed. The publishers paid older men to sell the papers, and even offered them police protection, but being the smart kids they are, the newsies found ways to distract the officers for long enough to attack the men. The women and girls got it a little easier because as the union leader Kid Blink put it, “A feller can’t soak a lady” The newsies also passed out flyers and hung signs around New York, that encouraged the people to help them in their cause by not buying the World and Journal.

The Rally at Irving Hall

The day of the rally, which was July 24th 1899,  the newsies held a city-wide rally at Irving Hall, and they were even sponsored by the state senator Timothy D. Sullivan. An estimation of 5 thousand boys from Manhattan attended the rally along with another 2 thousand boys from Brooklyn there too. And several hundreds from other areas in the city.

Many businessmen and politicians in the area addressed the crowd, Including a lawyer named Leonard A. Suitkin, Frank B. Wood, and past Assemblyman Phil Wissig. When they had finished their speech, the union president, David Simmons had a list of resolutions to the strike was to stand until the papers reduced their prices back to the 50 cents they were originally at, and advised the newsies to adopt less violent methods of resisting selling. Other speeches were given, from “Warhorse” Brennan, Jack Tietjen, “Bob the Indian”, union leader Kid blink, “Crazy” Arborn, Annie Kelly, and Brooklyn leader, “Racetrack” Higgins. They ended the night with a song sung by “Hungry Joe” Kernan. A floral horseshoe was offered to Kid blink as a reward giving hands down the best speech of the whole night.

In the days after the rally, the newsies tactics became largely non-violent. Their tactics were no longer beating newsies who sold the World and Journal, the strike was still effective because they got the public on their side, and they chose to not buy the papers. And they were still on sale. By July 26th 1899, the newsies had already planned a parade, in which almost 6,000 boys would march, with a bunch of band members and fireworks, but the parade really never happened because they didn’t have the rights or a permit to do so. Later, a rumor spread among the newsies that their union leaders, Kid Blink and David Simmons had been selling the boycotted papers, in exchange for a bribe from the newspaper executives. They of course denied it, but Kid Blink had been wearing nicer clothes, and sources note he may actually have accepted the bribe. Simmons and Blink resigned from their leadership positions on July 26th 1899, because they were sick of being accused of accepting the bribe. Later that night, Blink was chased through the streets of New York by a group of boys who were angry about him allegedly abandoning the strike. The police saw this, and assumed that he was the leader and arrested him for “disorderly conduct”. Blink was proven guilty and given a fine, but outside there was still a group of boys outside.

The end of the strike

The rumors about Blink and Simmons quickly dissolved after they failed to obtain a parade permit, their faith and trust in leadership slowly faded away. Other newsies tried to step in and lead the strikers, but none had any where close to the amount of leadership Blink had once held. On August 1st, 1899, the World and Journal offered a compromise. The price of a hundred papers would remain at 60 cents, but they promised they would buy back any unsold papers. This means for the newsies who struggled to sell papers would be able to go home and rest and not have to sell late into the night. The newsies accepted this deal, and the strike was disbanded on August 2nd, 1899.

Strike leaders

The leadership of this strike wasn’t as organized as others, with boys in other neighborhoods feeling more loyalty to their area than the leaders. They said some boys were more influential to them than others. The papers often quoted the newsies, including their New York accents.

The Newsboy strike of 1899 was huge, and was the largest child lead strike in history. Disney in 1992 was inspired to create the film, Newsies. It included the same union leaders but changed their names. Broadway later adapted the play in 2011.

NFL Favorites and Predictions… Can the Broncos pull off an upset?

NFL Favorites and Predictions… Can the Broncos pull off an upset?

Today I am going to write about my favorite players for week 5 and my predictions for week 5 of the NFL. I have already missed Thursday’s game so that won’t count in my predictions. I will be picking my favorite player for only some of the games not all of them.

My favorites for Sunday morning games: Jaylen Waddle, sadly number one wide receiver Tyreek Hill for the Dolphins got injured so Jaylen Waddle will now be the number one. With the dolphins playing the Panthers I think this is a great opportunity for Waddle to step up and show out. For Vikings v.s the Browns my favorite is Dillon Gabriel. I think he is really going to step up for his first NFL start, he might not lead them to a win but I do think we will do good. Derrick Henry: even though the Ravens are 1-3 I think Henry will finally find his rhythm against the Texans and run all over them. Pat Surtain: I think Pat will deliver for the Broncos defense and help clog up the Eagles pass game.

Afternoon Games

Marvin Harrison JR: The Cardinals are playing arguably the worst team in the league (Titans) and I think Harrison will ball out against them. Baker Mayfield: Every time I see the Buccaneers I think Baker Mayfield he’s just such a good quarterback and can lead the offense amazingly. Amon Ra ST Brown: The Bengals defense has been looking pretty bad and Amon Ra has been looking really good. Jayden Daniels: He’s coming off an injury and is finally going to be leading the Commanders again. I think he will do amazing this week. Josh Allen: Just like the Buccaneers I always think of former MVP Josh Allen when I hear the Bills. I think he will cook like he always does and lead the Bills to many touchdowns this week.

The Monday Game

Travis Hunter: The number one pick is going up against the Kansas City Chiefs and I think he will ball out. He’s been playing both ways and I’m going to predict at least one touchdown and one pick this week.

Predictions For The Morning Games

Vikings v.s Browns: I think the Vikings will win this one and it will be exciting to watch Gabriel against this good defense that the Vikings have. I think Justin Jefferson will be the best dude out there and the Vikings will win 36-20. Texans at Ravens: The record shows they’re even but I think Henry and the Ravens will find their rhythm and win this game pretty strongly 30-10. Dolphins at Panthers: my second favorite for this game is Bryce Young I think he’ll ball out against this struggling Dolphins defense and win this one 34-30. Raiders at Colts: The Colts have looked good and the Raiders have looked bad I think the Colts will win this game 35-14. Giants at Saints: The Saints have looked terrible and Jaxson Dart looked amazing last game, I think the Giants are winning 27-14. Cowboys at Jets: Both have looked bad but Jets have looked worse Cowboys, 13 Jets, 10. Broncos at Eagles: like the headline said I think the Broncos might pull an upset this week. Their defense has looked awesome and their offense is finally rolling, I think Broncos are winning 23-20.

Predictions For The Afternoon Games

Titans at Cardinals: I think the Cardinals are winning this one 38-7. Buccaneers at Seahawks: The Buccaneers have looked really good and so have the Seahawks but I think the Buccs will come out on top. Lions at Bengals: The Lions have looked really good and the Bengals haven’t. I think the Lions are winning 40-18. Commanders at Chargers: I think the Commanders are winning this game especially since they have Jayden Daniels back. 35-30. Patriots at Bills: I think the Bills will crush the Patriots 45-20.

The Monday Game

I think the Jags are winning this game against the Chiefs 25-20.

Changing Lives Through Horses

Changing Lives Through Horses

In a matter of how one girl can be the start of a program, how we can give back to ourselves and the horses, and this changed my life.

Bridle up hope. “Bridle Up Hope blends the healing power of horses with the proven principles of The 7 Habits® to create life-changing experiences for girls and women.” The goal of this program is to work through struggles you have with the horses you ride. Bridle up hope is a fourteen week program with an instructor. Bridle Up Hope is an all women’s program. You get a lesson each week, but if you go during service you can earn even more lessons, even if you are done with the program. There are multiple ways to do service. One is to clean the horse stalls. The other is to go to an art class or even yoga!

Ever since I went to bridle up hope I can say that the horses changed my life. Before doing the program I was sad all the time and I felt lost and like I didn’t belong, but during the program I was happy and when I was at the barn I felt I did belong. I felt more confident not just riding horses but I felt more confident in myself and my capabilities. I felt that no one was judging me. I felt loved by all of the girls and women. At Bridle Up Hope I could be myself. My instructor’s name was Tori. She is an incredible person. Tori helped me learn and grow in so many ways. She made me feel like I could do anything. I remember at one lesson I was getting really frustrated with myself because I couldn’t get my horse to walk. Tori talked to me about it and at the time I didn’t know but she was helping me work through what I was feeling and helped me work through it. I look up to Tori in so many ways. She is so kind and she always made me smile and be happy even if I was having a bad week. She would always tell me what I needed to hear and she would always know what I needed to do in order to get better both riding horses and just in my life.

I now wanna talk about why Bridle up hope started. “Our story began with a girl named Rachel Covey who loved horses. Rachel battled with depression for many years, but found great fulfillment in helping other struggling girls find hope through equestrian training. Her family recognized the special bond that exists between a girl and a horse—a bond that can help a young woman build confidence and overcome personal struggles. Rachel unexpectedly passed away in 2012. Shortly thereafter, in Rachel’s honor, the Coveys founded Bridle Up Hope: The Rachel Covey Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity with the mission is to inspire hope, confidence, and resilience in girls and women through horses and habits.” This is from the bridle up hope website. Bridle up hope is a foundation for a good cause.

Now I never have been to service because I couldn’t find the time, which doesn’t mean I won’t ever go. I think that doing the service is fun and incredibly important. It gives the girls who did the program to get to know each other better but it also goes back to the horses that help us. Service is just one more  way to increase your hope, confidence, & resilience as bridle up hope would say.

I just want to say thank you to Tori and to everyone else that has changed my life as well as so many others. Finally, thank you to the horses and what they did for me. Thank you for everything.

What is Social Media and how it affects us?

What is Social Media and how it affects us?

Social Media is a lot of things. Social media is an app dedicated to talking to people, adding posts and other things. Social media is a good thing for people to talk to others and have conversations. Social media can have good effects on people, but it can have bad effects on people. To do bad things and hurt others that can cause harm to people.

Social media is good but it is also bad for people. Here are some ways it’s bad for people. One Is that it can make people feel left out and sad. If one of your friends posted something with other people it can make you feel lonely and left out of stuff. Then it can make you feel jealousy and envy the person. It can also cause depression if people bully you on the internet.

But social media isn’t all bad, there are good things about social media. Some good things about social media is that you can see what is happening around you. Then you can comment and support people and it can have a good effect on them. Also you can post stuff and people will support you and see what is happening in your life.

So back to the topic of social media. Social media is a platform where people can talk and post pictures. To other people and then you can comment on the pictures. It’s a good platform to see what’s happening to your friends or what is happening around your area and of the world. Social media is actually not that bad if you use it right.

That’s okay but social media does a lot of things to people. Some things are great  and nice but some are harmful to people. But you can always just not listen to people’s inputs on your posts and be confident in what you do. So that other people don’t bring you down low you can be yourself. That’s why people post to feel good about themselves; they don’t need people to bring them down.

When people say bad things about your post they think

that they are funny and amazing. But most people don’t like bullies. So most people that do that are probably jealous of you and want what  you do. So that’s why some people bully people on social media platforms because they feel like they are better than you. But that is not true if you don’t let them bring you down.

So that’s what social media does to people, some are positive, some are also negative. But most people that are negative are probably going through stuff. So you can always say that your comments and effects won’t bring me down with you. So that you will be a better person on yourself that you need to bring people down with you. So what you do can have good effects on people or bad effects. But always remember to be positive and don’t let people say or tell you what to do.

That’s what social media can do to people. It can shape them into a good person or into a bad person. Just always remember to be yourself and don’t let people get to you on social media. Always be confident about yourself and what you do to be a better person in life.

So that’s what social media can do to people. Some can be positive and help you. But some people can try to bring you down to a low point in life. Where you don’t want to be you want to be up high where you are bright and positive about yourself and others. That’s what social media can do for you or other people. So that is social media and how you can be safe and not be a big meany on the platform.

That’s what Social Media is and how you can use it and also be safe while on social media. Also social media can be a safe platform and it can also not be safe. It just  comes down to how you use social media and what you do to be safe on different platforms.

Intro into Souls-Borne Games and The Best Bosses

Intro into Souls-Borne Games and The Best Bosses

These are the best souls-borne bosses ranked 1 to 5. 1 being the best and 5 being the ‘worst’. These rankings will be based on difficulty at the time of encountering them and their visual story telling.

Brief history of the souls-borne genre

A souls-borne game is a genre of  game that was made by the entertainment company from software with their release of the widely considered first souls-borne game called demon souls.

Which was released on February, 9, 2009.

Demon Souls was only released in Japan originally because of the publisher Sony having doubts that it wouldn’t succeed. Only when it was pirated and brought to the west is when they finally published it in the west with a company called Altus and Namaco and Bandi games in October 2009 gaining a cult-like following for its unique difficulty and the lack of a difficulty slider.

However demon souls wouldn’t be the first souls like the next souls like game that would be released this time in a world wide initial launch. This would be Dark Souls (2013) the first installment of the Dark Souls trilogy. Then would come Dark Souls 2 (2014) then Blood-borne (2015) and then ending the trilogy would come Dark Souls 3 (2016) . These would gain enormous praise for being incredibly hard and addicting to play.

The games that I will be including for the ranking will be Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3.

This is just to keep the grading level the same. Because of Blood-borne and the other games have different mechanics and will throw off the ranking.

The Ranking

#5 Yhorm

Yhorm is a lacking boss fight but still has an interesting mechanic of the storm ruler. The storm ruler is the correct way to fight Yhorm, charging up the storm art of war until releasing it into a large slice, hitting Yhorms head and damaging him. After getting him to half health Yhorm will go into an enraged state becoming more hostile and more aggressive shortening your time to charge up the storm ruler.

#4 Vodrt of The Boreal Valley

Vordt of The Boreal Valley is one of the first bosses the player will encounter.  Vortd isn’t a particularly difficult boss but is a great introduction to the third game as a whole for experienced players Vordt is a very easy boss fight and very has a predictable move set and is easy to counter but for a new player Vordt can pose a challenge having a seemingly rapid hard move set. Vordt being at number 4 is because he is a great boss to introduce the player for what’s to come with the boss after him being either the crystal sage or the abyss walkers.

#3 Twin Princes

The Twin Princes are one of the last bosses of the game coming right before the true final boss. The twin princes have a great boss fight with the holy magic and lordrans aggressive great-sword attacks. Altogether a great boss that is a great fight to test the player for what is about to come next which would be the final boss.

#2 Demon Princes

The Demon Princes are the first boss of the second DLC and are an amazing boss to fight with the area design and the bosses move-set that can change depending on which boss is killed first will change the move-set of the 2nd phase that is equally as incredible as the 1st phase.  With bright huge explosions and fiery lazers, the Demon Princes have earned their place at number 2.

#1 Slave knight Gael

Slave knight Gael comes in at Number one for a reason because of the incredible boss fight that is engaging and satisfying to beat with slave knight Gael’s difficulty and amazing move-set every stage and the environmental storytelling he deserves to be at number one for the amazing story and atmosphere.

Recap

Coming in at #5 is Yhorm for his story and interesting mechanic only falling short on being too easy. Next up is #4, Vort of the boreal valley because of the fun fight and being a great first boss to get the player ready to fight the next bosses. At #3 is the Twin Princes because of their great environmental story telling and great move-set and great placement in the game being just challenging enough for the late game characters. #2 The Demon Princess because of their Exceptional story telling and just great boss fights being different every time they are fought. #1 Being Slave Knight Gael because of his amazing story telling and exceptionally great three phases emphasizing the grittiness of Gael.

How social media and A I are affecting middle school students.

How social media and A I are affecting middle school students.
Social media and A I are sometimes very useful. But sometimes they are very harmful. This article is here to explain the reasons why Social Media and AI areaffecting middle school students in 2025.

Good side

Social media can be very good for helping with stress or helping you find a recipe or something. You can find a recipe or a fact or an answer that you have been dying toknow. Social media can help you find an idea or a starter for a school project or help with your home work.
A I can be very useful with helping you answer questions about anything, just like how social media can. A I is very helpful when you need literally anything. If you needadvice or need help with something just A I it.
“Advances in AI are making it possible to do more with less, and that’s going to improve the quality of life for billions of people.” – Mark Zuckerberg
Mark Zuckerberg the founder of meta A I said that A I is going to help “do more with less” and that means it is very easy to use A I and it can help with a lot of things.

Bad Side

Social media unfortunately, just makes it a lot easier to be jealous. It sets up false expectations of reality, so it’s really easy to look at someone else’s lifeonline and assume that they have everything going great for them and that their life is perfect” — BrainyQuote.
Social media can impact people’s lives, and make them very jealous about other people because online their lives seem perfect. Also Social media is spreadingmisinformation and harmful things around the internet. Sometimes people go on Social media to look up news instead of going onto a newspaper or a news website. Theproblem with that is it is spreading misinformation and it is done by various people on the internet, so they can be very one sided or can just spread false information to make people believe something that is not true.
“Artificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia, but for all humankind. It comes with colossal opportunities, but also threats that are difficult to predict.Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.”~Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin, Russia’s President, had a quote saying that the dangers of A I are endless. A I can get too intelligent and take over the world, but it is quite unlikely thatthis will happen. A I is very dangerous because it can also spread misinformation just like Social media. Since A I isn’t a living, breathing, human being like us, it doesn’t know exactly what is going on in the world as much as we do.
So that is how A I and social media affect middle school students.

Who was Gertrude Ederle?

Who was Gertrude Ederle?

Before August 6th, 1926, no woman had ever swam the English channel, let alone think about it. Then came Gertrude Ederle. She was the first woman to swim the channel, and she did it in 14 hours and 31 minutes. She beat the average man’s time, by nearly 2 hours. And she did all of this when she was 19 years old.

Gertrude Ederle was an American Competitive swimmer, Olympic champion, and world record-holder in five events. On August 6th, 1926, she became the first ever woman to swim all the way across the English Channel. It reached between the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. Among other nicknames, the Press called her the “Queen of the Waves”.

CHILDHOOD

Gertrude’s life began on October 23rd, 1905. She was born into the family of Gertrude Anna Haberstroh (Mom) and Henry Ederle (Dad). Both of her parents were German immigrants. She grew up in New York City, specifically Manhattan,  where her dad ran a butcher shop on Amsterdam Avenue. She had 5 siblings, two older sisters (Helen and Margaret) and 2 younger siblings (George and Emma). When Gertrude  was about 5 years old, she was diagnosed with Measles. Ederle got the measles in her ears, which meant that any pressure would further harm her for the rest of her life. Because of this, doctors warned that it could worsen with swimming. That was a problem. Gertrude loved to swim. By the 1940’s, she was almost all the way deaf because of her measles. Her hearing continued to get worse, but she kept swimming despite the fact.

LEARNING HER PASSION

Ederle learned to love swimming from a really young age. She grew up learning how to swim in the ocean in Highlands, New Jersey, because she wasn’t allowed in swimming pools due to her previous disease. She later switched to swimming at the Swimming Association (WSA). Some background information on the WSA- It was a historic organization whose leadership and members campaigned for women’s suffrage, and worked both to create more swimming events open to women and increase their participation in the Olympics. This sparked Eredle to join, and she did so when she was 12. The first stroke she went for was the American Crawl, which was in fact developed by the WSA head coach Louis. It also happens that in the same year, she set her very first world record, becoming the youngest person ever to do the 880-yard freestyle. She later set 8 more world records after that and 7 of them in 1922 at Brighton beach. In total, Gertrude held 29 US national and world records from 1921, to about 1925. At the 1924 summer Olympics in Paris, she won a gold medal as a member of the first place U.S. team in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay. She and her teammates set another world record for this event in 4:58.8 in the finals. In 1925, she decided to go professional. The same year she swam the 22 miles from Battery park to Sandy Hook in 7 hours and 11 minutes. She held the record for 81 years before it was broken by an Australian swimmer.  Her nephew, Bob, described his Aunt’s swim as a warm up for her later swim across the channel.

ACROSS THE ENGLISH CHANNEL

In the year 1925, the WSA sponsored Helen Wainwright and Ederle for their first attempt for the difficult swim. Last minute though, Helen had to cancel due to an injury, and it was up to Ederle if she wanted to do it herself, or if she wanted to wait for her to get better. Of course, she decided she would do it alone, and got coaching from Jabez Wolffe, who attempted to swim the channel 22 times before. August 8th rolled around and she began her swim, but she was disqualified when Wolffe tried to get another swimmer to recover her from the water. Gertrude was bitterly against this decision, and later it was speculated that he didn’t want Ederle to succeed. She later returned to New York and continued to train, but this time it was with coach Bill Burgess, who swam the channel in 1911. She received a contract from the New York Daily News and Chicago Tribune that paid her expenses and gave her a decent salary. Approximately one year after her first attempt, she was successful in swimming across the channel. She started at Cap Gris-Nez in France at 7:08 am on August 6th, 1926, and reached shore at Kingsdown Kent. This was about 14 hours and 34 minutes later. Her record stayed for almost 50 years before someone broke her record in 1950 by 13 hours and 23 minutes.

Before Ederle had successfully crossed the English Channel, only 5 men had succeeded before her, best time being 16 hours and 33 minutes by Enrique Tirabocchi.

Later Life and Death

She had made an arrangement with Edward L. Hyman to appear in the Brooklyn Mark Strand Theatre, which paid her way more than any other performer. She played herself in a movie (Swim Girl).

Because she had measles as a child, Ederle had bad hearing the majority of her life. She had never married and by 2001, she was living in a nursing home. Gertrude Ederle sadly passed away on November 3rd, 2003 in Wyckoff, New Jersey at the age of 98. She was buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York.

Gertrude Ederle was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame as “Honor Swimmer” in 1965. She was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2003. Annual swim in New York (Battery Park to Sandy Hook) is named after her to honor her, and follows the course she swam

Gertrude Ederle is an amazing woman, and with her hard determination, and never giving up, she reached her goal. A biographical film was released in 2024, sharing her life.

The Lumineers have released four albums, each being a unique piece of music. Their first album was titled after themselves and was released in 2012. Their next album was titled “Cleopatra”. It was released in 2016. Their third album, titled III, was released in 2019. Their fourth album is Brightside and it was released in 2021. They are now about to release their fifth album on February 14, 2025.

More about their albums

The album, “The Lumineers” is an anomaly. There is no auto-tune, no drums, and hardly any percussion at all. If you listen very carefully, you can hear the echoes when this acoustic band sings a sing along chorus. “Stubborn Love” and “Ho Hey” are two very catchy songs, which got the Lumineers noticed when they first formed. The album will always have the spotlight on more simple tunes, such as Slow It Down.

Cleopatra has many different moods, tunes, and instruments. “Gale song” is more of a slow emotional song, compared to Cleopatra, which is quick-paced and upbeat. The album cover was also based on a movie film made in 1917, titled Cleopatra.

Then, there is their third album, which is not a coincidence that it is titled III. It has very slow songs, then it will jump to a fast song that is more energetic. They released “Gloria” as the first single on April 5th. The album as a whole was then released on September 16th, 2016. In 2020 touring was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, The Lumineers could still reach number 27 on Billboard’s top 40 of top paid music artists.

On September 20th they announced Brightside to be their fourth studio album. They also released a music video on the same day. About a month later “Big Shot” was released, accompanied by a music video. The band announced that the album was officially released on January 20th, 2022. They then later had a world tour. During one concert, they sang a cover of “Just Like Heaven” originally sung by The Cure.

As of now, The Lumineers will release a new album called Automatic on February 14th, which happens to be on Valentine’s Day. They released one song “Same Old Song” the same day the album was announced.

Best Premier League Transfers of 2024

Transfers

The Premier League had several moves during this transfer window. Here are some notable transfers and their effects on the Premier League teams this season.

  1. To start, West Ham United bought Evan Ferguson from Brighton on a loan contract. Evan Ferguson is a center-forward and is a great addition to the team, but he has some work to do to gain a spot on the team.
  2. The next notable transfer is Marcus Rashford to Manchester United on another loan deal. Marcus Rashford is a striker and he will be able to score the goals that Aston Villa needs in the Champions League. This loan is a big step for Rashford because now he is getting to take part in much bigger competitions.
  3. The next transfer is Ben Chilwell to Crystal Palace, Ben Chilwell was lacking his usual good form causing Chelsea FC to loan him off. Despite not being in his best shape, he will add good defense to Crystal Palace and strengthen them.
  4. The next transfer came from another country, France. This deal was made by Aston Villa who acquired Marco Asensio from Paris-Saint-Germain on a loan deal. This transfer was great for Aston Villa because Marco Asensio has played on the biggest stages, and is a very skilled player.
  5. Tottenham Hotspurs were the next team to acquire a team from a different country, in this case, from the German Team Bayern Munich. Mathys Tel joined on another loan deal as a striker. Currently, he is on a mediocre skill level and doesn’t have a lot to add to the Spurs but he has very high potential to become a star player.
  6. The next transfer is not a loan, and instead a signing. Manchester City acquired Nico Gonzalez from Porto Fc. Gonzalez is a great asset to the team as he has played on some of the arguably best teams in the world.
  7. The next transfer is to Italy, out of the Premier League. It is a transfer from Chelsea to AC Milan. Joao Felix is already making a great impact on AC Milan, on his first game for Milan he scored a goal, making a great first impression.

The Effect

Now, let’s look at the effects of these players in the upcoming games for their teams. First of all, we will start with Joao Felix and his next match for AC Milan. AC Milan is playing Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League. Joao Felix should make a good impact in this game because he is a forward and most likely to score goals. Also, he has so far shown that he can work well with his team and create chances for goals. Next up is Aston Villa, their next game is being played against Ipswich Town in the Premier League, the two new acquisitions of Aston Villa should make an impact, partially due to the fact that Ipswich Town is in the relegation zone in the league, (which means they are one of the worst teams.) If Rashford and Asensio are played, then I wouldn’t be surprised if they help and contribute to a goal. For the next team, I will evaluate the Tottenham Hotspurs and their new player, Mathys Tel. Tottenham plays Manchester United, who will be weakened without Marcus Rashford. This weakened team might be the best opportunity for Mathys Tel to show how good he is. For the next team, I will look at Manchester City, which played on Feb 11, 2025.  For this game, Manchester City played Real Madrid, the two teams were evenly matched but Real Madrid won 3-2.  Nico Gonzale did not get played for this game, and maybe the outcome would have been different if he had been substituted into the game.
