5 Best Places To Visit In Utah

5 Best Places To Visit In Utah

Utah is an amazing state with tons of cool places to visit and things to do. It has everything from beautiful national parks to interesting cities with fun activities. Here are in my opinion the top 5 best places to visit in Utah, especially if you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or just something new to experience.

  1. Zion National Park

Zion National Park is one of the most famous places in Utah and definitely worth a visit. It’s located in southern Utah and has some of the most beautiful scenery you’ll ever see. Zion is known for its huge sandstone cliffs that are reddish- orange, which makes the park look incredible, especially during sunrise and sunset.

One of the coolest things to do in Zion is hiking. There are trails for everyone, from easy walks to more challenging hikes. Angels landing is a very popular trail, but it’s also kind of scary because it’s high up and there’s a narrow pathway. For those who want a less intense experience, the Riverside Walk is a good option and takes you right along the Virgin River. Zion is a great place to explore nature and see amazing views that make you feel like you’re in a totally different world.

  1. Salt Lake City

Salt lake city is Utah’s capital,  and it’s a great place to visit if you like urban attractions and history. There’s a lot to do, and the city is surrounded by beautiful mountains. One of the top places to visit is Temple Square, which is the headquarters of the Church of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The buildings here are really cool to look at, especially the Salt Lake Temple, which is super pretty and has interesting architecture.

Another fun place to visit in Salt Lake City is the Hogle Zoo. The zoo has tons of animals, including lions, tigers, and elephants. It’s a fun spot for families and kids, and it also has some cool programs where you can learn more about the animals. In the winter, Salt Lake City is also close to some of the best ski resorts in the U.s, like Snowboard and Alta, where you can go skiing or snowboarding.

  1. Arches National Park

Arches National Park is located near Moab, and is famous for its natural sandstone arches. There are over 2000 arches in the park, which makes it look super unique. The most famous arch is Delicate Arch, which you’ve probably seen in photos. There’s a hike to reach it, once you’re there the view is amazing, and it’s a great spot for pictures.

Arches National Park also has shorter trails and places where you can just walk around and explore. The Windows Section is another popular area where you can see multiple arches close to each other. The park is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset, and at night, the sky is really clear, so you can see tons of stars. It’s a perfect spot for anyone who loves photography, hiking, or just being surrounded by cool nature formations.

  1. Park City

Park City is a popular place for winter sports, but it’s also fun all year round. During winter, it is famous for skiing and snowboarding, and it even hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. The Park City Mountain resort has a lot of trails and is a favorite for people who love skiing. Even if you don’t ski, the town itself has a lot to offer, like cute shops, art galleries, and tasty restaurants.

In the summer, Park City is a great place for hiking, mountain biking, and zip-lining. They even have a big music festival during the summer called the Park City Music Festival. And if you’re into movies, the Sundance film festival happens in Park City every January, where you can sometimes spot celebrities and see new films before they come out in theaters.

  1. Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park is another amazing place to hang ou, especially if you like unique landscapes. The park is known for its ¨hoodoos¨, which are tall, thin rock formations that look like towers. The park has lots of viewpoints where you can see the hoodoos from above, and they look even cooler at sunrise or sunset because the colors of the rocks change with the light.

One of the best ways to explore Bryce Canyon is by hiking. The Queens Garden Trail is a popular and easy hike where you can walk among the hoodoos and get up close to them. Bryce Canyon also has stargazing events, as it’s one of the best places in the U.S to see stars because of how dark it is at night. It’s a really cool experience to just lie down and look up at the sky.

In conclusion, Utah has some of the best places to hangout, whether you like nature, outdoor activities, or city attractions. Zion National Park, Salt Lake City, Arches National Park, Park City, Bryce Canyon are all amazing spots to explore, and each one offers something unique. Whether you’re looking for an adventure or just a beautiful view, Utah has something for everyone.

Top 5 Volleyball Clubs in Utah

Volleyball has been the more popular sport in female participation for almost 10 years now, but some states are more competitive than others. California, Hawai’i, Utah, Texas, and a few other places, have seen more success in the volleyball world. Here in Utah, we have such a big volleyball culture. But with so many different clubs to choose from, how do we know which one to invest in? Based off of coaching staff, win-loss records, and cost, here are the top 5 clubs in Utah!

#5

Club Elevate

"EAVC" Club Elevate's logo
“EAVC” Club Elevate’s logo, black and white.

Founded in 2002, Club Elevate has been a big name from the start. After being sponsored by Nike in recent years, their participation numbers have increased exceedingly. However, Elevate has never really been known for having a very impressive record, and the cost is high to play ($3,450 for a season). The coaching staff  is not the most impressive, and the skill of play is not the best. But they are a great starting club for athletes who have never played before, and are looking for a way to ease into the sport!

#4

Club GSL

Club GSL (Great Salt Lake) is a great club for co-ed athletes. GSL is widely known for their successful boys volleyball teams; specifically the new welcoming of Shawn Olmstead, the BYU Men’s volleyball head coach, to the club’s staff. However, their professional level staff requires high compensation. With an average of $4,550 for a season, many athletes are unable to afford to play for GSL, pushing is back to #4 on my list.

#3

Club 801

Club 801 is known for their excellent coaching staff. Featuring college athletes from BYU, UVU, and even from the Utah Utes, 801 ensures that your athlete will learn the fundamentals of the sport and improve exceedingly over the season. However, the cost for 801 can be high depending on what level of play you chose. National level athletes may require over $3,000 for gear, tournaments, and coaching fees. Besides the cost, 801 is a great club to begin with and improve with!

#2

Club V

Club V has been a big name in the club volleyball world since 2007, when the club was founded. With their trademark red and white, you know them when you see them. Many athletes chose this club for the name, but many chose this club because of the overwhelming success rate. Club V is the #1  youth sport organization in Utah, and #38 in the nation. However, these 4 time National Champions require a hefty price, over $3,500 for a season. As many athletes love the competitiveness this club offers, the price makes it hard for some families to afford it.

#1

Club Sand

Club Sand's logo, orange and pink.

Club Sand was founded in 2016 to provide elite beach training for athletes. Although they started as a beach volleyball club, their knowledge of volleyball has earned them excellent court teams. Club Sand does offer tryouts, however they are known to recruit girls from other clubs during the off season. Club Sand also offers considerably less prices for gear and competition, helping any and all athletes play. With their bright colored jerseys, Sand stands out against any gym, and their skill and winning record stands out against any other club.

While these are all amazing clubs, there are many others based in Utah. From Club Hive to Club Union, there is a club for every skill level, financial status, and competitiveness for any and all athletes!

Lagoon, Utah’s Only Theme Park

Lagoon, Utah’s Only Theme Park

Lagoon is Utah’s only amusement park that holds some world records and has very intense roller coasters and flat rides.

Lagoon’s pros and cons

Lagoon has a great line up of roller coasters and flat rides giving you plenty of things to do while at Lagoon. Something that Lagoon does better than other independent parks is that they take really good care of their coasters. They have kept their coasters in very good condition, such as their wooden roller coaster. They change those tracks at least every year to make sure the coaster is safe and well taken care of. Not a fan of heights or are you scared? There are great family roller coasters and some calming and chill flat rides. Want chaos and thrill? There’s great and crazy roller coasters for you and some pretty intense flat rides. The problems though is the fact that Lagoon doesn’t have competition and that let’s them spike up the price like crazy, nearly being the same amount of money for a day pass at Disneyland.

Lagoon’s rides

Lagoon has 11 roller coasters and 46 flat rides with 57 in total. The fan favorite roller coaster is Cannibal. Cannibal is actually a coaster that was made in house by Lagoon. More fan favorites are Wicked and Colossus. The Bat is a good family coaster, the restraints are over the shoulder and is the one roller coaster that you are suspended above. A favorite flat ride is Rocket. The Rocket is made of three independent structural steel towers, 217 feet tall. Two of the three towers have tracks with two very different thrill rides.

Cannibal

(Talk about an intimidating roller coaster)

Cannibal opened on July 2, 2015. Cannibal lifts riders 208 feet and plunges them into a 116° beyond vertical free-fall into an underground tunnel. The 116°  beyond vertical makes Cannibal the tallest roller coaster in the world with a beyond vertical drop along with being the 5th steepest drop in the world and that’s done with JUST a lap bar. Cannibal is Lagoon’s most thrilling ride- including a 140 foot tall inverted loop and water feature. Riders travel up to 70 mph over 2,735 feet and through 4 inversions. You start the ride off going into a literal elevator and then you just see over before you go down the 116°  beyond vertical drop. The custom mega-coaster is unlike anything in the world and will eat other coasters in their tracks. That’s why it’s called “Cannibal”!

Cannibal is made in house by Lagoon themselves. Each cart holds a total of 12 people with 3 rows and 4 people per row. The coaster has 4 inversions and the first ever Lagoon Roll. A Lagoon roll is a counter-clockwise heartline roll immediately followed by a clockwise heartline roll or called a barrel roll, giving you some great hangtime by being pressed right up to the lap bar restraints. Cannibal on a scale of 1 – 10 has got to be a 10/10, i may be biased since it is my home park but this is truly a one of a kind coaster.

Colossus : The Fire Dragon

Colossus: The Fire Dragon was selected by People Magazine in 1984 as one of the top 10 coaster rides in the country! Colossus had opened up in 1983. Zooming through breathtaking 65-foot diameter loops, 75% of your body’s weight is pressed into the seat. The Fire Dragon is one-and-a-half times as high as the Lagoon Roller Coaster, and twice as high as Jet Star II. Colossus was actually a Circus coaster before Lagoon bought it off them. This means that technically you can take down Colossus and move it around!

A great thing about Colossus is the fact that the line goes by pretty fast! Since the carts can hold a good amount of people in one go. This thing allowing you to just keep going on it ride after ride after ride. Pretty good ride and a solid 8.5/10 for me, i just wish it had a bit more to it.

Wicked

Wicked was opened back on June 1 2007. Riders launch to the top of the 110-foot tower at speeds close to 41 mph by means of a linear synchronous motor (LSM) drive system, essentially rocketing riders up and over the top of the first hill. While riding Wicked there is a chance that the cart actually doesn’t make the launch. This is a rare occurrence but if it fails to finish the top hat then it will go back and they will reset the launch and get ready for launch once more.

The 8-rider vehicles travel individually and achieve speeds of up to 55 mph, passing through steep valleys, high-banked turns, a half-pipe, a heart-roll inversion and more. The lap/leg restraints will provide an exhilarating upper body freedom for riders. Something that can happen on Wicked is that on the launch the restraint pretty much staples you to your seat. How to prevent this is by holding onto the handles but also pushing forward on said handles on the restraint, but even if you get stapled while you’re waiting in the station to unload they actually release the restraints slightly since they know it hurts. Wicked gets a 8.5/10 same thing with Colossus, i wish it had more other than the launch.

Primordial

Primordial is the newest roller coaster that Lagoon has being released in 2023. Primordial is a interactive coaster with roller coaster elements. There is eight different endings for you to get on Primordial, allowing you to get different endings when you ride it. One of said endings is a drop track and it’s been found to be the tallest drop track in the USA at 31 feet!

There is an entire storyline but i won’t spoil anything. Primordial is a great family ride and just a great ride overall. Forgot to mention but Primordial was built in house by Lagoon, just like Cannibal. Overall i’d give it 7.5/10 since i wish it had more roller coaster parts but still a great ride!

Roller Coaster

No I’m not kidding it’s actually called “Roller Coaster”. To make this less confusing i will be referring to it as the Wooden Roller Coaster. In 1921 is when The Wooden Roller Coaster opened up. With it being over 100 years old at 103 years old, the Wooden Roller Coaster remains one of the most popular attractions at the Park, and one of only a few wooden coasters between Denver and the West Coast.  It is also one of the oldest roller coasters in the United States!

In 1953, a fire destroyed the front of the coaster. It was rebuilt the following year, and sections of the roller coaster are rebuilt from year to year. It is also called the White Roller Coaster because before said fire, it was painted white. A great ride and has a lot of airtime, overall a 8/10 for me.

BomBora

BomBora is a dynamic coaster with numerous state-of-the-art high speed thrilling elements including sudden drops, banked turns, compound spirals, and more. An innovative 16-seat train pairs riders side by side accompanied by rocking music and elegantly lighted theming. The amply padded seat and restraint securely holds riders at the waist to provide exhilarating upper body freedom during the ride.

Each seat may accommodate an adult or child rider. BomBora was opened on April 2, 2011. BomBora is a great ride to start out on if you’re scared of roller coasters since it is a fun but still calm family coaster. Due to BomBora being a family coaster, it isn’t one of my all time favorites but it is still a solid 5.5/10.

Until Next Time

I’m going to stop here for now. Next time when i talk about Lagoon i will have a interview with a actual roller coaster enthusiast. If you have some extra comments, some questions you want me to ask, maybe some hot takes, or even just what your favorite thing to do at Lagoon is. Just say it down below! Well hopefully you still have your ears and i didn’t talk them off but most importantly hopefully you look at my interview with a roller coaster enthusiast. See you hopefully next time!

Why Park City ski resort is the best in Utah.

Why Park City ski resort is the best in Utah.

Utah claims to have the best snow in the world, so they’re going to have many different Ski resorts, but to me Park City is the best one. From the lovely weather, to great terrain, it can’t get much better. There are many great and unique things about the resort that I want to share. So here’s why Park City ski resort is the best:

Great Terrian

Jupiter Peak, Park City

Park City ski resort has a wide range of terrain, and ways to ride the mountain. From flat easy bunny hills, to steep rocky back-country, it’s for everyone. If you’re a new rider there are plenty of greens, and easy hills to learn on. If you are immediate, Park City’s got you too! There’s also a lot of blues, and easy blacks. Even if you’re a professional, or expert at skiing, there’s very challenging runs at the top of the mountain that you can go down. In addition, for all the free-ride skiers/snowboarders there’s a great terrain park on both sides of the mountain, with huge jumps, half-pipes, and jib sections. Park City’s terrain isn’t the only good thing about it, their lodges and resorts are amazing too!

World-Class Resort

Park City Ski Resort home Lodge

Park City’s actual resort is world class. People come from all over the world to ski and vacation there. Park City being my home mountain, I have met many people from all over the country, and even the world, who came to ski here. The lodges have many restaurants inside them, and great views of the mountain. Being able to chill in one of the resort pools, or hot tubs, is the best feeling after a long day on the slopes. Also the workers and people that you’ll be with and meet in the resort, and on the slopes is another reason why Park City is the best Ski resort.

The people

Happy workers in the lift line

At Park City people are very kind, joyful, and excited. When you go out to the town there’s just a great feel about it! And when you’re on the slopes, people are usually very kind and everyone’s just enjoying themselves and skiing. The teachers for new skiers/snowboarders are also very helpful, and teach you how to correctly go down the mountain. Having a fun atmosphere while going skiing is half the fun. That’s a huge factor as to why this resort is the best. But how convenient is going to Park City?

Convenience

Park City’s mountain town

Park City is located in, well Park City of course. That’s about 38 minutes away from Salt Lake City airport. So it’s really not far if you’re flying in. Park City is a small mountain town, so it’s not gonna be in a major city like Provo, or Salt Lake. There are two sides of the resort: Park City, and Deer Valley. You can go to both sides depending on the pass you are using, but if you are trying to ski to the other side it will take you about 20 to 40-ish minutes if you’re slower. I’ve been to both sides, and they are both great. You can park on either side if you are planning to just ski there. With that being said, it’s a pretty convenient place to go skiing.

Skier riding some powder in Park City

All these reasons are showing why Park City Ski resort is the best one in Utah. It was voted as the number one resort in the country, in 2021. The terrain is amazing here, as well as the people and workers. The lodges and resorts you can stay in are outstanding, and very enjoyable. The convenience of where it’s located, and its two sides are also very beneficial. All in all, Park City Ski resort is the best in Utah.

A breakdown of the Utah Jazz 2021-2022 schedule

A breakdown of the Utah Jazz 2021-2022 schedule

This is a breakdown of the Utah Jazz 2021-2022 schedule. This year the Jazz are playing on Christmas Day for the seventh time; they also played these years on Christmas day 1975, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1988, and 1997. This is the first time they have played on Christmas day since 1997.

They play the Dallas Mavericks at 8:30 on ESPN. The Utah Jazz are projected to go 60-22. The Jazz are 3rd on power rankings in the west behind the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. The Jazz also have some long road trips; a six-day trip, as well as a 9-day road trip. The Jazz have 14 nationally streamed games; ESPN 8 times, and TNT 4 times, and one time on ABC.

The Jazz also has 13 back-to-back games. Utah will open up the season on October 20th at the Vivint Arena against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and end the season April 10th against the Portland Trailblazers in Portland.

The toughest stretch of the season is their 9-day road trip they start From January 23 up to February 4th. This is the list of teams the Jazz play in order: the Golden State Warriors, the Phoenix Suns, the Phoenix Suns (again), the Memphis Grizzlies, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Denver Nuggets, and the Brooklyn Nets.

The Jazz play on new years day against the Minnesota Timberwolves. At 7:00 pm

In Utah. They also play on my birthday December 8th at the Minnesota Timberwolves stadium. On Wednesday at 6:00 pm the Jazz play on Halloween against the defending NBA champions the Milwaukee Bucks with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Rudy Gobert that would be a good game to watch.

Let’s talk about their players. In the starting lineup, we got PG Mike Conley with his leadership on the court. SG Donovan Mitchell with his shooting defenses dunking he can do everything he averaged 26.4 last season. At SF Bojan when Donovan Mitchell is out he can take over the court when they played the Denver Nuggets on May 7th he dropped 48 points. At PF Royce O’neal he usually guards the best player on the other team like Lebron James. The center Rudy Gobert has 3 Defensive players of the year he is one of the best centers in the NBA he’s got a Defensive Offensive he can dunk cause he is 7’1 his defense he blocks everybody he can kinda shoot the jump shot. But if he could shoot 3s he would be the best center in the NBA. On their bench, there is Jordan Clarkson who won 6 man of the year he dropped 41 off the bench which was a career high. The Jazz also have Joe Ingles, he is their 3 point shooter. They also picked up a few players during the offseason, those being Rudy Gay, Eric Paschall, Hassan Whitside, Justin Jam, Udoka Azubike. The Jazz also drafted Jared Butler from Baylor in the first round. Their last bench player Trent Forster is a pretty decent player off the bench. That’s the breakdown of the Utah Jazz schedule and players.

Ways Utah is Helping With the Coronavirus

Ways Utah is Helping With the Coronavirus

In the past six months, the Coronavirus has been spreading all across the United States. Hundreds of thousands of people have died, while 7.26 million Americans, are infected with the virus. These are ways that can help stop the virus from spreading so quickly, and not only that, keeping you and the people who you love safe. It can also help life going back to normal, and who doesn’t want that? Here are tips and ways to help the virus from spreading so easily.

The first way is that the governor is encouraging people to keep their hygiene up, social distance, wearing masks is another really important thing. We need to do our part too and help fight the Coronavirus if we want it to come to an end. A campaign has started to decrease the number of cases that are going all across the country. This way, people are safer and it helps bring the virus to an end.

BYU studies show that wearing a mask is helpful. Not only does it protect adults, but it also protects the elderly and small children, keeping them safe. It helps bring down the virus, so when you go out, to make sure you wear masks. By wearing a mask, it helps keep you and others safe from the virus. Like said before, it helps stop the spread of the virus, and slows it down. Make sure to also put on hand sanitizer before and after you enter a store.

The Utah HERO project is where it tests 10,000 people across 4 counties. A recent study shows that you have a 12% chance of catching the virus from someone in your own home, but it’s a much bigger chance that you catch it out in public. It’s preferred if you stay indoors rather than doing social activities. It keeps you much safer, and you can do a lot of productive activities to keep you from being bored. Just be safe out in public.

You can help slow the virus by just simply washing your hands very frequently, social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, clean a lot of frequently touched items, and wear your masks. By doing these things, you would be helping to stop the virus from spreading so quickly, keeping you and others safe, and a bigger chance for life going back to normal.
