Downfall of Disney

The recent movies that Disney has been releasing have been off their usual production theme. The movies that Disney have been releasing have had unusual themes, and normally promote agendas. Their recent films have been “underwhelming” and “boring” according to the community. Since around the last quarter of 2022, Disney has lost 2.4 million Subscribers on Disney+. 

Disney Movies Have Been Underwhelming

“If Disney can learn from their flops and change then maybe they can make a good movie”, said Monte Vista sophomore Guia Shi Bone. 

Disney’s recent movies have not had the attention that they used to. When a new Disney movie would be released, it was all over the place, everyone would talk about it. Now, they are not getting as much recognition, movies will come out and no one even is concerned about it. 

On June 24, 1994, the movie The Lion King was released. It had 112 million views, with over 55 million copies sold worldwide.

Unlike the movie Lion King, Light year, one of Disney’s more recent movies releasing on June 17, 2022, they have “failed to generate much profit and is considered to be a box office failure”. Light-year was also underwhelming and was the start of the movies going down in popularity

New Companies Taking Lead in Production

Other movie companies are also taking the lead, such as Lucasfilm, before it was bought out by Disney, Lucasfilm released the movie The Empire Strikes Back. “The Empire Strikes Back outperformed its predecessor and set a new standard for box office success in the Star Wars franchise.

The movie Avatar is rated the #1 movie of all time, Lightstorm Entertainment released the movie on 2009 and it has been rated the #1 grossing film.  “By the end of today, Avatar 2 at $620.58M flies past Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s domestic take of $620.1M as the 11th-highest grossing movie of all-time in the U.S./Canada .Jan 29, 2023 “”Walt Disney Studios has been criticized for including stereotypical portrayal of non-white characters, sexism, and alleged plagiarism.”

Fox news stated, “In videos posted by journalist Christopher F. Rufo, Disney officials can be seen talking to employees at an “all-hands” meeting about the Florida bill, recently signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, and saying some teams at Disney have implemented an openly “gay agenda.”

Disney has been struggling lately due to their recent films, such as Turning Red, Elementals, and The Little Mermaid, while other movie companies, such as Lucasfilm and Lightstorm Entertainment are taking the lead.
