Evelyn Glennie and The Sound

Evelyn Glennie is a famous female percussionist who happens to be deaf. Firstly, when she started her career and why that was such an important time for her. Secondly, what instruments she uses and prefers. Lastly, The influence she has on music and her impact on music. Evelyn is a very important percussionist and this is part of her story.

Evelyn started her career when she was eight and playing the piano which is funny because she lost her hearing when she was eight. But Evelyn did not let her disability stop her; she picked up the clarinet only a couple years later. Although she did start her career in her home playing for her family. She had her first concert way back in 1985 and that marked the first day of her professional career. She shortly became famous for being a solo percussionist in fact she is the first solo percussionist.

Instruments

Over time she has collected over 1,000 instruments! That includes her many marimba, xylophone, timpani, chimes, congas, steel pan, djembes, bodhrans, daiko drums, and many, many more. As far as researching goes it appears that she does not have a preferred brand of instrument. Which is a good thing because it is kind of hard to find a brand that makes all of those instruments!

Influence

She had a big influence on the percussion game. I guess you could say she is a game changer. She was the first person to be a solo percussionist. Even though percussion is a hard thing to do with other people let alone by yourself! So you can imagine how hard it must be for her. Let alone being deaf while being by yourself.

All in all, Evelyn Glennie is one of the best percussion players of all time which is proven by her music. And even though she has a disability she does not let that stop her she still pushes through and succeeds every day. First, when she started her career at home and professionally and why that time is special for her. Secondly, all of her instruments she uses and the ones she prefers. Lastly, her influence on the percussion game and how she is a game changer in many ways. Although this is only half of her accomplishments because she has so many it is hard to sum it up in just one article so this is some of her biggest.
