Skateboarding was created in the early 1950s by a man named Larry Stevenson. Larry made the very first high quality skateboard. Larry organized the first skate team and skateboard contests where people would show off their skills. Larry would go on to live a full life dying at 81 in 2012. The first skateboard trick was later invented in the 1970s created by Alan Gelfand and he called this trick the Ollie, the Ollie is when you hit the tail on the ground which creates a little hop then you drag your foot across the deck of the board which carries you higher up in the air and it also evens you out so you land horizontally on the ground. People started learning how to do ollies then people started doing more creating the shuvit and the kickflip and so many more tricks. People found ways to grind on rails on your skateboard. Skateboarding became pro in 1980 people started entering contests many legends emerged and became famous later on after skateboarding got popular during the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 skateboarding became an Olympic sport which is huge for the skateboarding community. Some people got very good at skateboarding; they were the best of the best doing the craziest tricks. There are a lot of really good skaters but some are legends. Tony Hawk the most famous skater was born in 1968. When Tony was 9 he started skateboarding when he was 11 he started entering skate competitions. It went uphill from there he eventually went pro. He did some amazing things but the one that sticks out the most is in 1999 at the X Games Tony Hawk was the first one to ever do a 900 after that he did more cool stuff and now he still skates at 54. Danny Way was born in 1974. He started skateboarding at the age of 6 and then started entering competitions at 11. He started winning competitions then he went professional. In 2005 Danny Way was the first person to jump the great wall of china and fractured his ankle in the process. Danny Way is now 48 and still skates. Nyjah Huston was born in 1994. Nyjah started skating at the age of 9 and went professional when he was 11. Nyjah Huston is one of the best current skaters and will probably go down as a legend in skateboarding history. He is most known for his Nollie Frontside air or as some people call it the Nyjah frontside air. Nyjah is 28 years old and still skates and is one of the best rights now. My last skater is Dave Bachinski. Dave was born in 1986 only two years later he got his first skateboard and started skating. When he was 16 he became a professional skater. He has done a lot of cool stuff but the coolest is when he did a kickflip down El Toro in 2006. El Toro is a very known skate spot with 20 concrete steps and Dave Bachinski did a kickflip down it. Dave Bachinski is 36 years old and still skates to this day. Those are just a few of the skateboarding legends and the best of the best
