The breakdown of the 2023 Phillies

The Philadelphia phillies could be the best team in baseball this year. They have added all star shortstop Trea Turner and two amazing pitchers Gregory Soto and Matt Strahm, plus Bryce Harper is expected to come back from Tommy John’s surgery mid-season. There full healthy lineup consists of Jt Realmuto at catcher, Rhys Hoskins at first base, Bryson Stott at second base, Trea turner at shortstop, Alec Bohm at third base, Kyle Schwarber in left field, Brandon Marsh in center field, nick Castellanos in right field, andBryce Harper in at designated hitter.

 

                                                  Jt Realmuto

 

Catcher Jt Realmuto is a gold glove winner and is arguably the best catcher in baseball, with a league leading 1.90 sec pop time (the time the ball hits the catcher’s glove to when it reaches the second baseman) almost no one can steal second base when he is behind the plate. However he played way too many minutes in the 2022 season so the Phillies need to find a way to get him some rest this year.

 

                         Rhyse hoskins

 

Rhyse Hoskins at first base is not super reliable in the field but he can hit for some major power, with six home runs in the 2022 postseason he nearly tied the record for postseason home runs.He also hit 30 home runs in the regular season with a 0.246 batting average.

 

                          Bryson Stott

 

Bryson stott at second base had an impressive rookie season, while he will play second base this year he was at short last year and was phenomenal. With a batting average of 0.234, r10 home runs, and 49 rbi’s in 444 at bats he had a pretty good rookie season.

 

                           Trea turner

Now their new 2 time all star shortstop Trea Turner is probably one of the best possible fits for Philadelphia. He can hit for major power which is the Phillies main source of runs, he can hit for contact, steal bases, and is very reliable in the field. Turner has hit for the cycle three times, he was a 2019 world series champion, and a two time NL stolen base leader. With this being said he is arguably the best shortstop in baseball.Alec Bohm has been an amazing player in the field so far in philadelphia. With only 13 errors in 2022 he is the best and most reliable option the phillies have. He was the third overall pick in the 2018 draft and so far he has lived up to those expectations with a .277 career batting average and .324 on base percentage.

 

                              Outfield 

 

The Phillies outfield has a lot of depth and power. Kyle Schwaber, the 2022 NL home run leader, is the best healthy outfielder the Phillies have. He hits for major power and is an amazing outfielder. Brandon Marsh is their center fielder, he was a rookie last year and had a solid rookie season but it might be too early to tell for him if he can be a great player. Nick Castellonos was not amazing last year but is expected to break out as an amazing player and is already a great player in the field.

 

                                  DH

 

The defensive hitter situation is complicated because normally 2 time mvp, Bryce Harper would play the DH but he is out due to tommy john surgery. That’s where Josh Harrison and Bryson Stott come in. If Josh Harrison wins the job at second base, Stott will play at DH but if Bryson Stott wins the job, Harrison will play DH, but you also have to keep in mind that this is only for half the season before Bryce Harper comes back.

So in conclusion the Philadelphia Phillies have a great coaching staff and General manager for getting them the team of the decade that just might be able to finish the job.
