Why do Brits have bad teeth?

Why do Brits have bad teeth?

It has been known all around the world that Brits have “ Bad teeth ”. While this has been seen in the real world along the streets of London. There have been many, many movies that have shown people from London (spy’s or not) having bad teeth. Movies like James Bond films, Sherlock Holmes, London have fallen, The Courier. Each of these movies was made through American Movie Production companies. But the question remains, is it all a stereotype or do Brits have bad teeth?

Is it true that Brits have bad teeth?

It may be true that the citizens of London have bad teeth, but some say otherwise, and here’s why. In the article Do the British have worse teeth than Americans?, it states that “From casual jokes to media portrayals, the assumption that the British have worse teeth than Americans is well known. On TV, British characters are often shown with faded smiles and chipped teeth.” Studies have also found that Americans have an average of 7.31 missing teeth, while on the other hand, the British have an average of 6.97 missing teeth. This research shows that Americans seem to have worse teeth than the British. Even with that stated it’s not all true that the British have perfect teeth.

Do some Brits have bad teeth?

Now with the study showing that the typical stereotype of Brits having bad teeth may be true then why does the stereotype remain? The answer to this question is the fact that healthy teeth don’t have to be necessarily white. The article titled The truth about the British and their bad teeth states, “During the Middle Ages and for a couple of centuries beyond that, dental hygiene simply wasn’t a priority.” That may not be how it is today, but some of the British still don’t see dental care as a priority. The article Are British Teeth Worse Than American Teeth? It says, “Researchers have found evidence that British oral health is as good, or even better than it is in the States.” This study supports the idea that the British having bad teeth could just be a stereotype.

How does local dental care affect people’s teeth?

Even though British people having bad teeth is just a stereotype, it’s not like that in every country. Some countries have terrible dental care. Such as Poland, Bolivia, Australia, India, and the Philippines. The Philippines are known to have the worst oral health in the world! In the article 5 Countries with the Worst Oral Health, it states, “ The Philippines College of Dentistry found that nearly 90 percent of Filipinos suffer from tooth decay. Another astonishing finding is that nearly 100 percent of children between 3 and 5 years old have cavities.” With that said we can take away the fact that the British certainly don’t have the worst teeth. The article 5 Countries with the Worst Oral Health it does not list the UK as one of the worst dental care countries. Finally, we have the last question remaining, why do countries have such bad dental care? Our main reason is fluoride. Fluoride is commonly found in water, but it can become rare to find in other cities or countries. Some countries don’t have any traces of fluoride at all in their water.

Conclusion

There has been a stereotype of Brits having terrible teeth, but studies have found that it is just a stereotype. Scientists have found that Americans have worse teeth than Brits. In the end, neither countries realistically have “the worst teeth” IN the article 5 Countries with the Worst Oral Health it shows that people in the Philippines have the worst teeth. In the end, the idea that Brits have bad teeth is all a stereotype but it’s not like that in all countries.
