The MLS matchday 2 contained a wide variety of surprises. There were last minute goals, and champions being overthrown. I will go over the most important points of the MLS Matchday.
The Defeat of LA Galaxy
LA Galaxy, the reigning champions, looked to get a win after losing their first match against San Diego FC. But their hopes started to dwindle as Vancouver FC got an early goal in the second minute. Vancouver continued to lead on shots and possession, making it seem like an impossible challenge for LA to win. Then, in the thirty-ninth minute, LA Galaxy pulled back. Gabriel Pec scored a goal to get his team on level terms with their opponent. The game was coming to a close, and it looked like the game would seal out with a tie. In the eighty-seventh minute Vite assisted Brian White, who scored a game winning goal to give LA Galaxy their second loss. LA Galaxy are looking for a win next week, but without their star player Riqui Puig, it looks like it will be difficult.
Inter Miami Triumphs Without Messi.
Messi was suspended from the match against Houston Dynamo. And without their best player, would Inter Miami still show that they were the top? Inter Miami quickly asserted their dominance with an early goal in the sixth minute to boost their hopes. The half was coming to a close when Inter Miami put in their second goal, they were in great form and it looked like they had more goals coming. Ten minutes later, Luis Suarez passed the ball to Segovia who put in his second goal of the game, and Inter Miami’s third. The rest of the game was uneventful until the end where Inter Miami and Houston Dynamo scored one more. The final score of the game was 4-1, Inter Miami took the victory.
The Expansion Club
San Diego FC had triumphed in their previous game when they played LA Galaxy, Dreyer scored a brace to keep them in front. But now it was time for their next challenge, against Saint Louis FC. The pressure was on for San Diego FC, being the new club meant that many eyes were on them, watching to see if they would be successful. The game didn’t start off well, as in the first twenty minutes their star player, Hirving Lozano, went limping off of the field. San Diego FC was controlling the game; they had seventy percent possession while their opponents only had thirty percent. The only place San Diego was lacking in, was their shooting. They ended the game with fifteen shots, but only one was a shot on goal. St. Louis even had more than that, even though they weren’t doing great. The game came to a close as a draw zero to zero, a disappointing result for San Diego FC.
Champions Once Again
Philadelphia was faced up against Cincinnati. Philadelphia was currently first place in the Eastern conference because of a win the week before. The two teams were matched up evenly, but Philadelphia had the drive that Cincinnati did not. Tai Baribo netted a hat-trick that tidied up the win. Evander scored one for Cincinnati, but was denied any more chances on goal after that. Philadelphia finished the game off strong with a game winning goal in the ninety-third minute. Philadelphia were now starting to separate from the rest of the league, and were showing how they were becoming the winners that they were two years ago. Slowly but surely, Philadelphia was rebuilding their team with great players to become champions of the MLS once again.
So, the MLS season has started off with many interesting topics. And there will be more information to come in the future.
