Gameplay

Gameplay for MLB The Show 20 is smoother than it’s ever been. They have fixed some of the weird animations you get now, such as an outfielder missing a routine fly ball, or a shortstop holding onto the ball instead of throwing it.

They also have fixed hitting animations. When you used to good-good a ball, it would usually turn into an out. There is another level, perfect-perfect. It’s almost guaranteed no to become a hit if it’s perfect-perfect.

Road To The Show

Multi-Reward challenges are now in the game. This motivates and rewards players to hit better, which makes the fanbase of MLB The Show that much stronger. You can now get multiple rewards for completing challenges. Obviously, the harder the challenge, the more rewards you earn.

On-field relationships are also a new addition. The stronger of a relationship you have with another player, the better you play together. For instance, a second baseman and shortstop that have a strong connection will start turning double plays that you see in a top 10 highlight reel. Behind the backflips, barehand grabs, jumping throws, etc.

Franchise Mode

Franchise mode was always one of the modes in the game that never was as popular as modes like Battle Royale, or even Diamond Dynasty. With some of the new modes in Franchise, it’s bound to become more popular.

Custom leagues are now in the game. This allows you to change the league to your liking. If there is a rule you don’t like, you can get rid of it. Free agency can be turned off. The list goes on.

Minor League teams are now becoming better than ever. San Diego Studios says, “They got next”. After all they are the next generation of bright stars. The minor leagues are becoming more consistent, more powerful. This is making the game more exciting and promising.

Relocation and Rebranding are now better than ever. Unfortunately, some cities aren’t able to afford a Major League team. That changes with MLB The Show. Rebranding allows you to rename your team, edit jerseys, logo, etc. Relocation lets you move your team to another location. If you wanted to, you could move the Dodgers to our own Salt Lake City.

Top 5 baseball video games of all time

5: Mario Super Sluggers

Mario Super Sluggers is a wacky, creative game that came out in 2005. The player(s) get to draft their own team out of Nintendo characters. Some characters are faster than others, while others have better pitching ability. You can even put your mii’s on the team. You can change the batting order, and who plays where. Then the game begins. Each main character has two special powers, one for hitting, the other for pitching. Once you start playing, it turns into a fun, wacky game. You can rob home runs using buddy jumps, throw different pitches, throw obstacles at fielders to make an error. There are also other modes, like challenge mode, where you complete challenges and go around the island picking up Mario’s friends and creating a team. It is pure crazy and fun

4: The Bigs 2

The Bigs 2 came out in 2009, 4 years after Mario Super Sluggers. Your cover athlete is Prince Fielder. Essentially, The Bigs 2 is the MLB version of NFL Blitz. You go on an adventure, starting in Mexico, and go to the big leagues, and beat teams, and after you win, you collect All-Stars and form a super team. You’ll then go to places like Japan, and play their super teams. You customize your person and give them abilities. A genuinely fun game that is addicting.

3: RBI Baseball

Me personally, I have played all of the games 2017-present. The original game was made in 1987. It is essentially Xbox’s version of MLB the Show. Though it may not have all the modes and online features that MLB the Show has, it makes up for that in gameplay. The game is super detailed. Very simple controls, and yet you can still do pretty much everything MLB the Show has, but it’s easier. The games update pretty frequently. There is an exhibition mode, and a season mode, where you play the whole season with the same team. And an online mode, so you can play with friends. A realistic game, that is addicting.

2: MVP Baseball

What a game, MVP baseball was. As Manny Ramirez as the cover athlete, this game during 2000-2010, was easily the best MLB video game at that time. The series stretched from 2004-2007. At the time, people were shocked at how fun and addicting the realistic game was. You could play it on all the old school systems, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, and even PC. You could customize teams, like NBA 2k, adding and removing players from teams, thus creating a super team match.

1: MLB The Show:

You all knew this was coming. In my non-expert opinion, MLB the Show is the greatest MLB video game ever created. Every year a new game comes out. Javier Baez is your 2020 cover athlete. There are an insane amount of modes in this game, such as Road to the Show, where you create a player, and then roleplay from the minors to the big leagues. Battle Royale, where you get to draft random cards onto your team. Diamond Dynasty, where you collect cards and make a team out of them. The list goes on and on. If you don’t have a PS4, don’t worry. MLB the Show 2020 comes out on all platforms, Xbox, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. You need to get this game, it is just so good.
