An 18 Year Old Man Attacked Multiple Churches in Coeur D’alene ID

An 18 year old is facing federal charges after he planned a church attack in Coeur D’alene to support ISIS(Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant). Alexander Scott Mercurio was going to use a metal pipe, butane fuel, a machete and, if he could get them, his fathers gun.

 

Alexander adopted muslim faith against his christian parents. He was arrested on Saturday, April 6th the day before he was going to attack. There were messages on his phone left for a relative and his defense attorneys at the Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington & Idaho weren’t returned immediately on Tuesday.

 

If Mercurio is convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison

 

On March 21, he sent a direct message to an informant saying that he was restless, frustrated and wondered how long he could keep living “in such a humiliated and shameful state,” the statement alleged.

 

“I have motivation for nothing but fighting … like some time of insatiable bloodlust for the life juice of these idolators; a craving for mayhem and murder to terrorize those around me. I need some better weapons than knives,” is what he said in the direct message.

 

Mercurio told someone that he was going to incapacitate his father with a pipe, handcuff him and steal his guns and his car to carry out the attack in Coeur D’Alene. The guns include rifles, handguns and ammunition his father kept in a locked closet.

 

Mercurio said in an audio recording in which he would give to an informant “everything will be so much easier and better and I will achieve better things,” according to the statement. The recording was going to be with a photo of Mercurio in front of the Islamic State flag holding a knife and his index finger in a gesture commonly used by the group. 

 

After Mercurio attacked the church he told the informant that he had planned to attack other churches in Coeur D’Alene before being killed in an act of martyrdom.

 

Mercurio talked with confidential informants over a two-year span and at one point tried to build an explosive vest to wear during the attacks.

 

Mercurio told a confidential informant that he connected with the Islamic State Group during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic when schools were closed, someone said, and investigators later found a bunch of files on his school issued laptop detailing the Islamic State Group ideology. Mercurio’s parents didn’t agree with his beliefs, he had allegedly told a confidential informant posting as an Islamic State Group supporter, and he eventually began to worry that he might be a hypocrite for not carrying out an attack yet.

 

“I’ve stopped asking and praying for martyrdom because I don’t feel like I want to fight and die for the sake of Allah, I just want to die and have all my problems go away,” what Mercurio said to the informant

A court record said “Mercurio spread ISIS propaganda online and solicited ISIS’s involvement in and approval of his propaganda efforts, discussed traveling from the U.S. to join ISIS, considered and planned ways to support ISIS financially, and most recently, set forth a plan to assault his father with a metal pipe, acquire his father’s firearms and attack a local church.”

 

My opinion

My opinion on this is bad and mixed in a way. Yeah he was going to attack churches but he did what he wanted to do. You might think this is super bad but you have to realize that he was forced into Christianity by his parents and he didn’t want to  be a christian. My opinions overall are bad and mixed because yeah, he attacked churches but he wanted to.

Artemis Mission which gets people to the Moon, is delayed till 2026

Artemis III mission which is a manned mission to get humans on the moon for the first time in over 50 years. is delayed till at least September 2026. Lunar exploration is set to experience some very lengthy delays.

Some of these reasons could be the fact that SpaceX, is trying to get Starship to the moon but both ended with explosions. SpaceX is far from making a lunar lander, even though it has proven that Starship can reach the Earth’s orbit, Although SpaceX has proven that their stuff can blow up.

A NASA associate administrator said “We must be realistic. … We’re looking at our Starship progress and need for propellant transfer, the need for numbered landings.”

SpaceX could be ready to have the necessary approvals for Starship to do a test launch in February but you never know what could happen.

Artemis II mission which alms humans by the moon won’t get to its target date of November this year which is delayed till September 2025. People have been expecting delays but this much is for SpaceX.

Delays could coincide with Orion crew capsule because of their life support systems, and failed valves when testing the capsule. The capsule’s heat shield charred when the capsule was reentering the Earth’s atmosphere. NASA says that needing to lift life support systems would take the longest with delays.

Artemis IV is still targeted for its deadline of 2028. Artemis IV is a mission in which NASA would make a space station that will be orbiting the moon which is is called Gateway. NASA’s plan with lunar exploration seems to be going as planned although Artemis IV could get delayed for certain issues, not saying there will be any delays but you never know.

China is also working on lunar exploration as it has gotten a robot to land on the far side of the moon. This could be a sign that China caould try to get into a Space race with America like in the 60s with the Soviet Union after the Soviets launched Sputnik which is the first satellite to was launched in 1957. China’s technology could have an advantage if we did go into a space race with China.

Artemis’ underlying goal is to create a permanent place where humans can have a presence a presence.

The delays that NASA has announced manned missions for Artemis come as NASA’s robotic lunar exploration program called CLPS or Commercial Lunar Payload Services suffered a setback.

NASA has partnered with four companies that can help develop lunar landers that can carry science experiments and other cargo for the mission. The first launch that happened, the Astrobotic Peregrine lander, failed in the hours after the rocket launched.

The company is assessing how it could dispose of the lander when it runs out of propellant en route to the moon.

What actually happened during “The Conjuring”

The events of the “Conjuring” can be a bit misunderstood. You might have seen the movies but they are almost completely fiction. so I am going to tell you the story of what happened in 1971 with the Perron family in their house. What happened to them and why did it happen.

 

The Beginning

 

The beginning dates back to 1675 going back to the King Philip’s War that lasted from 1675-1678. The King Philip’s War was a war where Colonists relentlessly wanted more land from Native tribes. When they wouldn’t give land they went to war with tribes like the  Narragansett, Wampanoag and many smaller tribes. The property that the house was on was “One of the bloodiest battles during King Philip’s War.” When one of the Perrons’ daughters heard from a spirit that there were 7 dead soldiers in the wall. Later they found 5 bodies around the property.

 

The “Dark Times”

 

The “Dark times” happened in around the 1830s-1870s when someone named Bathsheba Sherman who was believed to be a witch because of the things she was accused of. She was accused of murdering babies with sewing needles at night. After Bathsheba Sherman died, “her malevolent supposedly haunted the house.” The house was already home to a bunch of tragedies like the King Philip’s War but what bathsheba sherman was accused of added a lot of more stuff to this property. Probably a lot more haunted stuff

 

The Hauntings

 

In June of 1970, Carolyn Perron found a farmhouse by accident. In December of 1970, the Perrons bought the house and on January 11th, 1971, Roger and Carolyn Perron with their kids Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cynthia, and April moved into a 3109 square foot house over an 8 acre property in Harrisville, Rhode Island. They had just moved in the house, and stuff already started to happen. 

 

Throughout the 10 years that the Perrons lived here, they had experienced the paranormal in a way that has never been seen before from them. They were being scratched and tugged and touched and one of the kids would see the spirits haunting throughout the night some nights when they lived there. Sometimes the beds of the children would get pulled and the family would get harassed constantly by spirits.

 

All of these things led to demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren to investigate the house. They did a bunch of stuff like putting jingle bells on door handles and put microphones throughout the house to listen for paranormal stuff

 

In 1973, Carolyn Perron was acting really strange and the rest of the family didn’t know what to do. She had become really weird and the family was scared. The family thought she was possessed so they got Ed and Lorraine Warren. Since Ed Warren was a Priest, he performed an exorcism on her.

 

The Exorcism

 

The exorcism would take place in the Living room in which Carolyn Perron was tied up in a chair and Ed Warren started the exorcism. While Ed was doing the exorcism, it happened. The chair that Carolyn Perron was on was levitated and thrown 25 feet to the other room. The family was in shock and thought she was dead. Roger Perron was so mad at Ed and he kicked them out.

 

Present Day

 

Many people have investigated the house and the property trying to find out what happened, how it happened, and why it happened. Out of the many people who have investigated and how much they investigated, we know a bit more about why everything happened, who caused it, and why they wanted to do it.

87 exotic animals were being trafficked. The people who were smuggling were caught in Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. There were 6 people smuggling and going to Mumbai. It is pretty stupid to try to smuggle animals through a security checkpoint that could check your luggage.

 

The 6 people were 5 men and 1 woman trying to go out of the country to Mumbai which is in India. They are being arrested for trying to smuggle animals. Again, pretty dumb to smuggle exotic animals through a security checkpoint going out of the country.

 

The 87 animals were exotic and some of them were endangered. Some of the animals were a red panda, two monkeys, 29 lizards, 21 snakes, and rare birds, including a parrot, and a Sulawesi bear cuscus which is a type of rare marsupial which is native to indonesia.

 

All the animals were protected under a multilateral treaty called CITES which protects endangered animals and plants from illegal smuggling. This is good because if CITES wasn’t a thing then illegal animal smuggling would be more common in this world and that’s a bad thing.

In Thailand, which is where this is taking place, you could get up to 4 years of imprisonment.

Places like Thailand, China, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates are sometimes major transit hubs for illegal animal smuggling. This issue should have a bigger consequence internationally because invasive species would be larger and could be a serious issue. There are many serious problems with invasive species. Some invasive tree pests can reduce carbon sequestration rates in forests. Aquatic invasives decrease the resilience of green infrastructure to resist flooding and sea-level rise. Another issue is that invasive species alter habitats. 

 

Some issues of animal smuggling is that wildlife trade threatens the local ecosystem and puts all species under additional pressure at a time when they are facing threats such as over-fishing, pollution, dredging, deforestation and other forms of habitat destruction. Some of these issues can also be that animal trafficking in wildlife can diminish species populations and cause local or even global extinction. When endangered species are involved, any poaching or harvesting of that species to supply the illegal trade risks the species becoming extinct.

 

Animal snuggling can completely destroy animals whether it’s by their ecosystem and habitat, to the native animals way of surviving. “The early bird gets the word” is that the birds that wake up the earliest have the best chance of catching a good meal, since no other birds have awoken to pick for worms. The most likely actual meaning probably says that early people get a better chance than late people, but we’re gonna stick with the bird one. If the invasive species also eats worms, then who has to wake up earlier, the bird or the invasive species.

 

This also has impacts to an environment because if say a full grown cactus were to end up in a rain forest, then how would the cactus or the rainforest try to adapt to all of this, well it can’t because invasive species ruin other animals habitats, environments, and lifestyle. This is why we should try to do an international ban on animal smuggling. That way invasive animals don’t destroy other animals’ way of living and their lifestyle in the world.

Shooting happened at Lakewood Church.

A shooting occurred at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church last Sunday, injuring 2. The suspect was killed when police showed up. Texas authorities said: “At 1:53 PM when the Spanish speaking session was about to begin, someone shot at the church”

The suspect, who was a woman, carried a long rifle, she was wearing a backpack and a trench coat. She had a child who was about 4-5 years old. I don’t know why she brought a child, but she did, and that’s crazy. After she started shooting, off duty officers engaged and returned fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

2 people were injured, including a 57 year old man who was shot in the leg, and the child the suspect brought with, who is in critical condition. Why would you bring a child and then make the small child in critical condition? That’s very messed up and dumb.

The suspect mentioned that she had a bomb, but when a bomb squad was sent to search the premises, her car, and her backpack. There wasn’t any bombs on the scene. I’m guessing that she had a plan to blow up the church, but she was stopped. 

She was spraying some substance on the ground of the church and around the church. Police said that there wasn’t any threat to the public around Lakewood Church. 

 

During a conference, Senior Pastor, Joel Osteen, thanked law enforcement, and was devastated by the shooting that occurred. Joel Osteen says “We don’t understand why all these things happened, but we know God’s in control.” and he said “We’re going to continue to move forward. There are forces of evil, but the forces that are for us, the forces of God are stronger than that,” he continued. “So we’re going to keep going strong and just, you know, doing what God’s called us to do, lift people up and give hope to the world again.”

 

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced the death of the shooter. “Correction: shooter is down,” Gonzalez wrote on social media. “But it does not appear that@HCSOTexas deputies fired shots; other agencies fired.”

“It’s traumatic. Not only for our community, but it’s certainly traumatic for the officers who had to take a life and we worry about their mental health as well, so our prayers are with them,” Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said in Sunday’s news conference. “It is very important and tragic that a church was shot down by a crazy woman.”

 

Police advised that if there are people with missing family to go to the family reunification center at Greenway Plaza’s Life Time Fitness gym.

 

Lakewood responded on X saying to pray for Lakewood and the community.

 

Someone says “Soon after, she told the news station, she heard repeated bangs, almost like mechanical sounds.”

“Our hearts are with those impacted by today’s tragic shooting and the entire Lakewood Church community in Houston,” Abbott said. “Places of worship are sacred.”

 

Newly elected Mayor of Houston who ran on a law and order platform praised the Houston area agencies for collaborative response to the active shooter.

Washington post said: “Lifeway Research, owned by the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the United States, did a survey of Protestant pastors last year. It found that by far the most popular security plans pastors have are an ‘intentional plan for an active shooter’ and armed congregants. Fifty-four percent of the pastors polled said they have a plan involving armed churchgoers. Three years earlier, that number was 45 percent, Lifeway said.”

Houston Police Chief, Troy Finner, said “patrols will be increased at places of worship across the City of Houston.”
