Minecraft 1.20 Snapshot 22W42A

Minecraft’s latest update is just around the corner and in this article you can learn about everything that has been added in the first snapshot!

Creative Inventory Menu

The first thing that was changed in this snapshot was the Creative Menu. In the Old Creative Menu all of the block types such as brick slabs, mud slabs, and stone bricks were grouped together now however,  the brick slabs are with the different variations of brick and this is the same with all the other blocks in the games. You can also find certain items in multiple different categories in the Creative Menu.

Chiseled Book Shelves

The Chiseled bookshelf is a new type of book shelf that Mojang has added to the game and instead of it being a decorative block you can actually interact with it! The chiseled bookshelf can have 0-6 books in it and it can have  plain books, an Enchanted Books, Book and Quill, and Published Books in the chiseled bookshelf and the book shelf will remember where the books were placed. You can also right click on the bookshelf with an empty hand and you’ll get the last book that was last placed in the bookshelf.

The Chiseled bookshelf can put out a redstone signal depending on the amount of books in it, but currently in this snapshot there is a bug so the red stone signal strength is all messed up. Another bug that the chiseled bookshelf has is that it can be set on fire but it can’t burn!

To craft the bookshelf you need 3 wooden planks on top, 3 wooden slabs in the middle, and 3 wood planks on the bottom of the crafting grid.

New Bamboo Wood

The new woodset in this snapshot is Bamboo. With Bamboo planks  you can make all the same things like signs, fences, fence gates, the new hanging signs, buttons, stairs, slabs, and pressure plates, but bamboo has its own plank variation called the mosaic plank.

To craft the bamboo planks you need 4 bamboo in a 2×2 grid and to make the mosaic plank you need two bamboo slabs. For the rest of the other items you can craft with the bamboo planks it’s all the same as the other wood types.

The Bamboo wooden types can not be composted like normal bamboo can, but the bamboo wooden planks can be used as fuel.

Bamboo Raft

The boat and boat with chest look for the bamboo wood is completely different, in fact it isn’t even called a bamboo boat or bamboo boat with chest, it’s actually called the Bamboo raft and the bamboo raft with chest! Everything else though is completely the same as normal boats.

The Camel

The Camel is a new mob that Mojang added to Minecraft and it is basically a horse, but it can have two players, and it has a boost ability instead of a jump ability that the horse, donkey, and mule have.

The camel can only be found in a desert village near the well and the camel doesn’t need to be tamed like the other rideable mobs in the game (except for pigs, striders, Zombie Horses, and skeleton horses) so you can just through as saddle right on as soon as you find the camel and start riding it. The Camel has a total health of 16 hearts which is equal to 32 hit points.

The camel is the only animal in the game with a sitting animation so far and the camel will also wiggle its little ears!

Since the Camel is so tall Hostile mobs can’t reach you! Well, except for skeletons and creepers. If you want to breed your camel you’ll need cacti, but if a camel is standing on a cacti it will take damage so be careful with that.

Hanging Signs

The hanging signs are a new variation of signs, but they don’t have as much room for text than a normal sign.

The hanging sign has  different variations. The first one is the one that hangs from a fence post and the second one is that sign that hangs off of the side of a block.

The Sign that hangs from a fence post has a bunch of different angles that it can face and the sign that hangs from the side of the block can only be placed on the 4 outside ends of the block

To craft the Hanging Sign you need 6 striped logs on the bottom two rows of the crafting grid and 2 chains on in the top left corner and one in the top right corner of the crafting grid.
