How a Birthday Invitation turned into a Family Business

When a mother asked her friend’s son Wyatt if he would be willing to bring his reptiles to her daughter’s, who loves snakes especially, birthday party to show them and talk about them as part of the entertainment. Sparks flew! The party was so much fun and another mother attending the party asked if he would do the same thing for her homeschool

group.  Wyatt knew he had found his passion.

Since then, about a year Wyatt and his siblings who also have some reptiles have joined Wyatt and Rocky Mountain Exotics was born. Together they have accumulated 14 animals, comprising of a tortoise and from the arachnid family, a pink toed tarantula, five snakes including two large Boas, a Ball Python, Gopher Snake as well as a Common Garter Snake. They also have a variety of lizards including a Black and White Argentine Tegu, Savanna Monitor, a Vailed Chameleon and the groups mascot, a Frilled Neck Lizard and the newest addition to the collection, a Horned Lizard. Some are even rescue animals. They have entertained at a variety of settings from neighborhood parties, carnivals, birthday parties both indoors and out.  Most of their business has come from word of mouth, but they are currently working on a website and venturing into social media platforms.

The groups focus this year is to find educational opportunities to be able to take their animals into the classrooms of elementary and middle schools to help educate kids about their animals and to teach them how to care for and answer any questions that they may have. They also want to teach the kids about conservation efforts and how we can protect and care of animals in the wild.

Right now, all the reptiles are kept and cared for in their home, But the kids hope to one day open a facility where they can rescue more reptiles and continue to educate and entertain.

The neighbor couldn’t be more excited for what her daughter’s party meant for Wyatt and his family since he entertained at her party making it a memorable one and the beginning of something special.

Wyatt has been able to find other opportunities to interact with animals that he has been able to become a volunteer at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium giving him access to gain more knowledge for the animals that he loves.

Wyatts advice for everyone is “If you have a passion for something that you should share it because you never know where it may take you”.
