Atrocious Abandonment

Atrocious Abandonment

Right now shelters are overflowing with animals. This is mostly because of people surrendering their pets at shelters, or abandoning their pets. If you abandon your pet there can be some serious consequences, for them and you. If your pet gets abandoned they can become anxious and depressed, which can lead to some permanent issues or them not being adopted again. You can also face consequences if you don’t properly relinquish your pet.

Pets Get Anxiety and Depression

If your pet gets abandoned, they can become anxious and depressed. If they are anxious and depressed, they can get permanent abandonment issues and separation anxiety. This can lead to them being returned to the shelter after getting adopted. Additionally, if they are anxious and depressed, that can also lead to them not getting adopted in the first place. If your pet doesn’t get adopted or gets returned to the shelter, after enough time they can get euthanized.

Why Pets are Getting Left at Shelters

Many people welcomed a pet into their families during the first year of the COVID-19 Pandemic. During that time, pets got used to having their families at home with them. When people went back to work and school, pets were not ready for that. This lead to untrained, misbehaving, and separation anxious pets. Because of this, owners are leaving their pets at shelters, and surrendering pets.

Consequences

If a pet gets surrendered or left at a shelter, they can become anxious and depressed, as well as have their behavioral issues worsen. These effects are increased in pets that are abandoned. Abandon means to intentionally deposit, drop off, or leave a live animal without providing care for that animal; in a situation where conditions present an immediate, direct, and serious threat to the life, safety, or health of the animal. Pet abandonment is considered a misdemeanor in the United States, which can be up to a year in jail and a fine of up to two thousand five hundred dollars.

Solutions

Instead of surrendering or abandoning your pet, you can work with your veterinarian and a behavioral specialist to help resolve misbehavior. If you are struggling financially and have a pet, there are resources available to help. Some of these resources include low-cost veterinary services, pet food banks, pet supply pantries, and pet retention programs. Local humane societies can help with emergency veterinary care at a low cost. Additionally, if you have to get rid of your pet, there are resources for that too. Instead of surrendering or abandoning your pets, you can post them online so that they can go directly from you to their new home. Which reduces chances of anxiety and depression, as well as additional behavioral issues.

What you can do to help

If you are wondering what you can do to help, there are several options. First of all, you can foster from shelters, helping take pets out of the shelter. This is also beneficial for the pets because it means that they are not stuck in the shelter, and they can get some extra love and attention from you. Which can help reduce depression and anxiety. You can also help train pets while fostering them to increase their chances of adoption. You can also adopt a pet. But before doing so you need to make sure that you are ready for a pet, and that you get the right pet for you, as to not increase the problem. There are resources online that can help you pick out a pet that is right for you. If you are a more active person, pick a more active pet, and if you are the type of person that stays inside, pick a pet that also likes that. These are just a few of the ways you can help. Reach out to local shelters and humane societies to see more ways to help.

Cats v.s. Dogs–What’s so great about each?

Cats v.s. Dogs–What’s so great about each?

Everyone’s fought over which pet is the best. Obviously there’s more than two animals you can have as a pet, but no one’s fought over them quite like cats and dogs.

74% of people like dogs, and 26% like cats, but this article might change your opinion, or if possible, make you like both.

Dogs:

Dogs have existed for 23,000 years, evolving from a species of wolf, changing their skulls, teeth, nose, and senses to be more kind and obedient. They were named “Man’s best friend,” and are currently the most popular animal on the planet. Dogs are known to be very intelligent and can learn over 100 words and gestures. Dogs’ senses are ten times stronger than humans. They have very strong and sensitive noses, and can hear as far as a quarter of a mile. Their ears are also built so they can understand humans better. If you pay attention to the way a dog acts, you realize that they are a lot like humans, from the way they play around like children, to the way they can be right or left pawed. Dogs are very naturally clever. They learn how to walk and talk from such a young age, even when no one’s there to teach them. They have lots of unique characteristics as well, such as the fact that they can only sweat through their paws, they pant like they do instead of sweating. Dogs, much like humans, can dream. Sometimes if they’re having a bad dream, you can see them whining in their sleep. Did you also know that dogs can only see blue and yellow? They aren’t color blind it’s only how their eyes are designed.

Cats:

Cats have existed for millions of years, much longer than dogs. They evolved from a now extinct wildcat, along with lots of other species in the cat family. They share lots of behaviors with their ancestors, and siblings of the cat family, including the way they hunt, jump, stalk their prey, and an irresistible need to scratch everything. Cats have many unique characteristics and skills, such as their strong ability of night vision. They can see six times better in the dark than people. They can also jump six times higher than their original height. That’s why you often see skittish cats jumping straight up when they get scared. Cats also have many characteristics that help them hunt prey, unlike dogs, who have more friendly characteristics. Cats have soft, thick paws to help them sneak up on prey, and they use their tails to help them balance when they want to walk narrowly, or sneak up easier. Some interesting fun facts about cats is that they walk like camels and giraffes. They walk with both right feet first then left feet. Cats are the only one of their family to walk that way and it’s a very unique feature. They also pur to create a way to soothe their nerves. That’s why they pur when they are uncomfortable or distressed. They also pur when they are happy, like when they get pets.

So the argument still stands. Which one is better? Each has a different, unique lifestyle, and different ways of living. Dog’s are more of a loving animal, and like to play around, while cats are more like their ancestors. While they still like to play and cuddle, they also love to hunt for prey. Some dogs and cats can be different. They can be lazy, or jumpy, and other times they don’t like to cuddle or have some trust issues and don’t love people as easily. You don’t even have to pick out these two. There is a whole world of other animals and pets to choose from.

We Should Care About Rabbits

We Should Care About Rabbits

Rabbits have been neglected and abused for years and it is not okay anymore. Rabbits are used for food, fur, and simply for a pet but most people that own a bunny are mistreating them.

Pet rabbits

If you are looking into getting a pet rabbit that’s great, if you know what you’re doing that is. Most people mistreat their rabbits by accident or for content. This is not okay because bunnies are very sensitive animals. You have to remember they are prey animals not predators. What makes people the most inferated by people who own rabbits is, some bunny owners let their ten and under kids care for them and that goes down bad. For example my neighbors cousins had bunnies and their four year olds were playing with them unsupervised. The kids ended up throwing the bunny across the room  and the sweet little baby bunny died.

Meat

It is very tragic but there are companies out there that harvest thousands of rabbits for meat. Some companies use domestic rabbits { rabbits that are pets } for their meat which is very horrifying and gross.

Animal abusers

Animal abusers have been known for picking up rabbits and other small animals to kill, mutilate and torture rabbits. For example, Patryk Sochocki bought a rabbit from the local pet store and cut off its hind legs, tail, and genitals with a pair of scissors. The police found the man with bottles of alcohol, and a strong smell of marujana. The rabbit was rushed to a local animal hospital, but sadly passed away from bleeding out too much. Another case of animal abusers abusing rabbits, Dorota Trec, a music teacher who was found keeping her rabbits outside and not taking care of them. The A.S.P.C.A took dozens of rabbits away from here and then came back three days later to get the rest. When they were looking closely at them they realized, two thirds of the rabbits had wounds due to bites. Half of the rabbits tested positive for syphilis, nearly three dozen had genital or anal trauma.

Parents

Parents are one of the biggest problems for most animal abuse cases .

Most parents leave their kids or people around these rabbits and don’t think of it. They come back later to find their pet bunny dead. So when you have pet rabbits you have to be mature and have a good right mindset. If you lack that kind of responsibility you probably should not own a pet bunny.

Doing your research

Getting a new pet is exciting but you have to do your research or else you can abuse that animal or harm it without you even knowing. When you get a bunny on the other hand people think “oh there like rodents there rodents. But no they are not rodents and no they should not be put into cages. Bunnies are super needy and if you can’t provide that care then either try to make it work or change your ways but when worse comes to worse don’t get the bunny. When you put it into perspective every animal and human is needy but with rabbits it’s not like putting it in a cage all day and never letting the bunny out. If you do that you can get charged or even worse arrested. When you are taking care of a rabbit don’t put it outside, let it in your home and free roam. When you have a pet bunny give them attention and love treat a bunny how a dog or a cat would be treated. Give your bunny the right kind of food. And most importantly, do your research.

Protect Your Pets

Protect Your Pets

In extreme temperatures, your pets can be seriously harmed if left outside unattended, and you can face criminal charges if you do so. If it’s below freezing, your pet can get frostbite, hypothermia, and even die. In temperatures above ninety degrees, your pet can get sunburnt, dehydrated, and heat stroke which can lead to death.

Yes, many pets enjoy going outside for some fresh air, but if left outside for extended periods of time without necessities, great harm can be done. Leaving your dog or cat outside in extreme temperatures can lead to a first-level misdemeanor, and depending on the level of crime, can get you a one thousand dollar fine and two years in prison.

If for some reason you cannot take your pet inside, such as if they are destructive or aren’t able to be potty trained, contact your veterinarian and they can recommend you to a behavioral specialist, which can resolve those problems. Additionally, the recommended parameters for leaving your pet outside are that they have shelter, water, food, and some way to heat up or cool down, depending on the environment. Also, you should make sure that your pet is not neglected, and can have socialization.

If your pet has a health condition, always monitor them while outside, due to the fact they are more at risk with extreme temperatures. Brachycephalic dogs are also more at risk because they have a harder time panting to cool down, and get cold quite easily. Short hair, hairless, and smaller pets are also more at risk because they cannot stay warm as easily as larger pets, or pets with double coats. Additionally, pets with double coats are okay in slightly colder temperatures because they can stay warmer, but struggle more with high temperatures because in the heat they can’t as easily cool down.

Furthermore, in areas with climates that have all four seasons, you have to be careful of both ends of the temperature spectrum, because of the fact that there are often winters with temperatures below freezing, and often summers with temperatures above ninety degrees.

At this point, 23 states and the District of Columbia restrict the time that you can tether your dog. Sometimes this period is as little as thirty minutes. Some states say that you cannot leave your pet outside in freezing temperatures, during storm warnings, and during extreme temperature warnings. Make sure to check what the laws in your state are.

It should be noted that pets are just as vulnerable to extreme weather and temperature as we humans are, if not more so due to their smaller size and not being able to care for themselves. Pets rely on their owners for safety and protection, as well as on sustainable food, clean water, and suitable shelter. Many pets are left outside in extreme temperatures, and many of them die or get seriously hurt. Some pets that are left outside in temperatures below freezing and it snows or rains, can get frozen to the ground, get bloody paws, and even more damage.

As of right now, many animal associations can not take action against owners for leaving their pets outside, due to the fact that they have no legal powers. Because of this many pets are left outside in extreme temperatures and many of them die.

Don’t stand by and do nothing! Spread awareness. Tell your family, friends, and neighbors about the dangers of leaving your pets outside. Most importantly, if you see a pet left outside in extreme temperatures, take note of the type of animal, the time, the date, and the exact location. Taking a picture can help as well. Then you should contact your local law enforcement.

The best pets to own

The best pets to own

There are many animals you can own and take care of, but some pets can be harder to take care of than others In this article, I will be stating what the bests pets to own are. Some of the best pets to own are cats, rabbits, smaller and larger birds, fish, and snakes. All of these animals are a great choice when looking for a pet to take home.

Why should you take these pets home?

These animals are very different, but one thing they have in common is that they aren’t super hard to take care of. Cats are easy pets to take care of because they are quiet and are low maintenance compared to other animals. Cats are also easier to train. Cats are also a good pet to have if you live in an apartment. Cats also have longer life spans and are very independent. Cats clean themselves, so no need for bathing them. Rabbits can be great pets because they also don’t need to be walked, but that choice is optional. Rabbits also match the time you go to bed or to the time you wake up. Rabbits are kind and mostly friendly. Small and big birds can be good pets because they are very intelligent. They also can stay indoors for long periods, but that is also optional to the owner. Small and big birds are also very social and mostly like being around people. Fish are a really easy pet to take care of because they are calm and don’t make any noises. Fish are also very fun to look at and also fun to feed. They don’t need much as a pet that lives in water. Snakes are very cool and have a fun texture. Snakes are also less expensive than other pets. These are why these animals are better pets to own.

When are the best times to own these pets?

All of these pets have their unique reasons on why they are the best pets, but there is also a certain time we recommend purchasing these pets. The best time to buy a cat is when is it over two years old, This is because it could benefit you if or when you have a child. The best time to get a rabbit is when it has fully developed. This is because the rabbit won’t need its mother to feed it or provide for it, but instead, it can provide for itself. The best time to get a small or large bird is when they are younger. This is because some birds don’t have a long life span. The best time to get a pet fish is whenever, but places that sell pet fish usually wait until they have fully evolved. Those are the best times you should purchase these animals.

Who can you go to to get these pets?

Many places hold these specific animals. Some places you can get these animals are at the pound. This is where I suggest you purchase your pets just because it is better for the pets and could be better for you. Getting animals at the pound can be risky, but it is always a good option to try to give these animals a second chance. You can also find these animals at PetCo and IFA. There might not be all of these animals at these places, but there will be some guaranteed. You can also win fish at Carnivals and Theme parks. Those are some places you can find these animals.

Where can you find the things to take care of these pets?

All of these animals have different lifestyles and different places to find the things for their lifestyles. One popular place people go to find these things is PetCo. You can find these animals and the things to take care of it here. Another similar place is IFA. You can find things for rabbits, birds, and cats. Another place is PetSmart. You can also find these on online websites. For example, you can order things for your pet at Chewy.com. Also at petsuppliesplus.com as well. Those are some places you can buy from for more things to support and take care of your pet.

How will having these pets affect your life?

Having any pets, in general, can change your life for many reasons, but in different ways. Having a pet cat can lower your risk of having heart disease. Cats also help reduce stress and anxiety. Having a rabbit can help you be more gentle and caring. Rabbits can also be very entertaining. Having a pet bird can be beneficial because they normally are not messy and don’t need much attention compared to other pets. Having a snake might help you get rid of your fear of other reptiles or insects.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are many animals that you can have as pets. There are easier pets to take care of and harder pets to take care of, but as long as you love and take proper care of your pet, it is your choice of what pet you would rather take care of. All animals are worth taking care of and have their unique features and personalities. Those are the best pets to take care of and why.

Dog Or Bear?

Dog Or Bear?

Dog Or Bear?
When you get a dog, it should be a happy moment, and it was until they started noticing that something was wrong with it.
Su Yun was just like any other mom. She loved her kids, was hard-working, and her life was action-packed. She thought her hands were already full while raising her kids, family time, and spending time with her husband. Su Yun and her family were living in China, specifically in the southwest province of Kunming City. Her and her family’s lives were relatively normal until they were going to add another member to the family – a pet. They all thought that this would be fun, but little did they know that this decision would put their whole family on the spotlight.
With families with young children, life can get pretty hectic. So Su Yun started planning a vacation. She started packing bags, helping the kids, and buying the snack, but no matter how much planning, something was bound to happen. After months had passed, they were finally on vacation and excited for what was to come. Suddenly they came across a litter of puppies that were up for adoption. The kids started begging their mom, and as you can guess, Su said yes. The kids had been begging for a dog for years, and Su finally caved in. Soon enough she was going to find out that she had a lot more on her hands.
The man who had sold the puppy to her had told her that the dog might grow very large. But that didn’t stop her and her kids. The seller told her that this dog was a Tibetan Mastiff. And that this dog could weigh up to 180 pounds and stand up to two feet tall. That’s one big puppy. Su and her family decided to name their dog “ Little Black,” referring to his pitch-black fur, and partially irony because they knew that he was going to get so big. This name might have sounded weird in English, but in Chinese, it was super cute. But they didn’t know that in the future, this could get them into legal trouble.
The family continued to fall in love with Little Black, but once they got home, they needed to think of a way to raise it. But as time passed, they started to see some strange behaviors. One day when Su got home, she found Little Black in the kitchen, standing like a human! Sure it was normal for a dog to stand like this for a couple of seconds, but he had been standing there for probably about 5-10 minutes. He started having a tremendous appetite, which consisted of a full box of mixed fruits and about two packs of noodles. Probably any dog who ate that would have been sick and go see the vet, but not Little Black. This kept happening, and Little Black started having a bad temper, so Su Yun started to research and the results were terrifying.
After researching this behavior, the result was scary. She found out that she had been caring for a Black Bear! She had no idea what to do, she had been caring for a Black Bear for two years. Su found out that raising a black bear in china meant that they could go to jail, so she knew what to do. Without being able to transfer the bear to another home, she had to call the authorities. No one knew what would happen, but luckily she was able to avoid jail because she didn’t know it was a bear. But everything turned out okay. Su was able to avoid jail and Little Black was able to stay at a reserve. But no one had to worry anymore. Little Black’s backyard days were over.

What should You do About your Pet and COVID-19?

What should You do About your Pet and COVID-19?

What happened to the first pet to get Coronavirus?

Some people have never thought of this, but what if our pets get Coronavirus? Well, the very first dog to test positive for the virus in China has died recently. It was a 17-year-old Pomeranian. The dog belonged to a 60-year-old woman and died three days after returning home from quarantine. However, another dog living in the same home consistently tested negative during the quarantine.

Therefore, pets such as cats and dogs can get COVID-19. However, there should not be a reason to panic. The Pomeranian was an older dog and had traveled recently. Not to mention the test was a weak positive.

Can your pet give you COVID-19?

“No. I think the idea that we’re going to give this virus to our pets or we’re going to get it from them is just nonsense,” said Dr. John Williams, chief of the division of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Another thing said was by Schaffner. They said “We don’t have to worry about pets — this virus now likes humans but data show it’s not spreading among pets or farm animals,”

Both these quotes prove that our pets cannot spread the disease to us, and we cannot spread the disease to them. The only reason why people started worrying about this in the first place was that the very first known dog in Hong Kong got diagnosed with it.

After the dog tested positive, they tested several other dogs and cats for the virus and found that there were no positive results in any of the pets. So, therefore, the likelihood of dogs and cats contracting this is extremely low, as of right now.

What should Pet Parents Do About All This?

Embrace your pets. They can’t give you the virus, so “hug away” experts say. After all, pets play a vital psychological role for their owners, especially now because everyone is feeling so isolated and alone inside their homes.

This is definitely the best time to hold your pet close to you. Since you can’t go and hang out with any of your human friends, you can at least have fun with your animal friend

At least now you can be entertained at home with your pet. Especially if you’ve been busy recently. Your pet will love and appreciate you putting in the time and effort to bond with them more. Let’s keep our distance from our human loved ones just so we can be safe. But, if you need something to hug, go ahead and love on your dog, cat, bird, etc.

With everyone stuck at home, we may as well sit back and relax with our pet. Your pet will enjoy it as well, so why not? Plus, pets can reduce stress and anxiety. So just taking a break to play fetch with your dog, or sitting down to read with your cat asleep on your lap, or even watching your pet fish swim around. It can be very relaxing for you to watch.

Even if you are still going crazy with being indoors all day, as long as you keep your distance, you can take your dog on a walk around the neighborhood. Or take your dog out in the backyard to play with a ball.

In conclusion, we shouldn’t be worried about our pets spreading the disease to us. Instead, we should hold them close to us and spend as much time as we can with them since we can’t be near our other loved ones.
