Hooks are important in books for many reasons. They are the start of a story, the part that hooks the reader in. Which is exactly why it’s called, well, a hook. They are important because if you get a really good hook, it can help with the rest of the story. 

The hooks provide engaging information that ties in the rest of the story, or writing. It engages excitement for the reader, and it gets the reader reeled in so they are engaged for the rest of the book. It makes the article fun from the beginning. 

 

  In an article called “The benefits of hooks” by VOKI blog, it says “How many of you have found yourself in this situation: it is Saturday night and you are watching TV.  All of a sudden, this intriguing movie trailer comes scrolling across your screen.  It is a teaser about this amazing movie coming out this summer.  You are captivated and memorized.  You have to find out as much as you can about this movie that has captured your attention.  You are hooked, line and sinker”. 

 

  It makes the entire article enjoyable. It also helps so you aren’t so stressed to make all the information eye-catching the entire time. It helps calm that stress by causing so much excitement right off the bat. Then you can give little exciting details here or there but, you can just give information about it without worrying about losing the attention of your audience. 

 

  Also another reason hooks are so important is because it helps students in school. Another quote from the same article states “Students can focus on creating more productive work and hooks make the learning environment fun right from the start”. 

That quote is saying that in school even writing hooks can help. Not just in books but in articles as well. It helps create a fun activity by trying to make the hook as engaging as possible.

WHY BATMAN ARKHAM CITY SUCKS

           Honestly, the Batman games are great, BUT this one was really bad. The game is mostly side quests like finding the riddler or killing the Simpsons all bad side quests THAN JOKER DIES. If they added more story like having hawk man come and fight it would be so much better if I could I would sell it back to steam AND BATMAN FALLS RIGHT INTO JOKER’S TRAP AND THAN JOKER PUTS HIS SICK BLOOD INTO BATMAN’S NECK  the enemies are good like Dr. Hugo Strange, Clayface, Joker, Harley Quinn, Penguin (Riddler side quest, Victor Zsasz side quest, and Deadshot side quest only)  Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Talia al Ghul, Two-Face, Killer Croc but it’s hard to do like you talk to him but he doesn’t want to eat you like he wants to in the first game. The bad guys are great, well… Most of them…COUGH riddler and Deadshot…COUGH otherwise good villains but the fights suck like clay face goes (hands move in the way clay face did) then he turns into a spiky ball and comes rolling at you (starts rolling on the ground). THERE ARE PARTS THAT ARE SO CONFUSING there is this one part where you have to get out of the sewers and you think “oh just go out one of the storm drains or go out the sewer grate.” WELL, YOU CAN’T! You can see the grates up over you but you can’t get out of them like bruh what. If I made a game I would make it so I could get out of the sewers at a grate but in Batman, you need to go find the friggin EXIT AND YOU HAVE TO CLIMB OUT ON A TRAIN and there was a point where you could get out like there is this room where the glass above is broken and batman can’t just grab his grappling hook and get out. AND BRUCE WAYNE WAS PUT INTO ARKHAM CITY Because Bruce has committed a LOT of felonies which include vigilantism, battery, (although it could be argued its self-defense it most likely won’t) breaking and entering, and most goes on and on. Plus Bruce himself (as Batman) hung the mayor and threatened him in Arkham City. And You can play as Catwoman But only if you buy the DLC so there are these pink riddler trophies that are in the game no matter even if you don’t have the DLC (I for one bought the deluxe version when it was on sale for 10$) But when I played as Catwoman I was disappointed she can climb on walls and ceilings if they have a fence, she has a whip and catrops and bullwhips and she works with poison ivy And Ivy says go get me my plant back from this safe were Catwoman also has to go to get Batman’s cure but than Catwoman kills ivy’s plant and you would think “well now Ivys going to be pissed off at Catwoman”. BUT THAT’S THE LAST YOU HEAR OF IT LIKE BRUH WHAT. Catwoman just killed the plant you NEED to get out of Arkham City and Catwoman’s like “hehe nope ” Well now that you have heard me rant and rant and rant about this bad game but now you know don’t play it.

School Shootings Affect on American Society

Shootings have a grip over American society. School shootings negatively affect the lives of many American students and teachers.

There was a movie that came out in 2021 called The Fallout that stars Jenna Ortega. With her recent break on the Netflix show Wednesday, more of Ortega’s shows and movies are moving into the current spotlight. The movie is about a girl, Vada played by Ortega, that goes through a school shooting. The director, Megan Park, interviewed with TeenVouge stating how much she enjoyed the process of filming and the actors that she chose to cast. She also shares some insight on the amount of work she put into it. Park also reveals how real she wanted to make the movie without triggering anyone that has fallen victim to school shootings. Park says she did her best to take actual victims’ experiences and apply them to the film. 

This movie is very essential in the kind of world we are living in right now. The movie shows the process of Vada getting through the traumatic event. With the three shootings in California over the weekend, this movie is showing the kind of world we are in today. 

In the movie, the shooting happens in one of the first scenes. Vada goes to the bathroom and another girl, Mia played by Maddie Ziegler, is in there doing her makeup. They two later hear gunshots from outside the restroom and they quickly run into a stall. The two panic when the bathroom door opens but it turns out just to be a boy seeking safety from the shooter. The three wait out the shooting together.

We find that shootings have become more prevalent in recent years. Ever since 2020, shootings have gone up at an exponential rate. It is really scary because it is very real and we are talking about life or death instead of learning and growing. As mentioned earlier, there were three shootings in California in one weekend. A single weekend. 

Vada has a best friend, Nick, that survives and he does his absolute best to speak out and make sure shootings like that don’t happen again. Vada feels numb and just tries to make it through the day. Vada has a little sister who is around ten years old and says something along the lines of, “Sometimes I just think; what year are we living in, you know? I can literally buy a bulletproof backpack off of Amazon.” The little sister says this right after the shooting which is kind of poor taste but she’s a child and doesn’t know the bigger picture and the effect her words might have on her older sister. She does raise a good point, though. What year are we living in? Why do shootings happen so often and why aren’t they going down? 

Vada struggles through the movie on getting through the traumatic event. She starts therapy and in her final session in the movie, she is finally able to admit how she feels about the shooting. Vada tells her therapist that she feels mad. Vada states “I feel mad, because I had no idea one guy with a gun could f–k up my life so hard in six minutes. F–k up so many lives!” This is the voice of victims of shootings in America. Anger is what they should feel. No child deserves to go to school to learn and be met with gunshots, dead classmates, and dead teachers. 

School Shootings

Last year, the Uvalde school shooting shocked not only the state of Texas but most of the world as well. A psychotic 18-year-old decided to shoot up an elementary school and killed twenty-one people. Similar to the quote from The Fallout he messed so many lives up that day, in a short amount of time. That is not only unethical, but it is also unfair. Unfair that that eighteen-year-old can walk away, to jail of course, but he has robbed nineteen children of life and opportunity. He struck their families and that is so unfair. He also took two teachers. Two teachers had spouses and children. Those teachers were supposed to prepare the next generation and make our future bright and strong, but instead, they were met with this tragedy.

It is unfair that someone like the shooter, who is typically dealing with some mental problem, can walk into a public learning space and take the lives of others instead of fixing their own. It is not fair to the lives taken, the hurt communities, and especially the hurt family and friends. It isn’t fair to educators to worry about their student’s safety when threatened. No teacher should ever have to protect their students from active shooters.

Unsurprisingly though, this problem is only present in America. America is the only country that is proud of the right to carry. Well, look where that has gotten us. There have been about seventy mass shootings this year alone. It is almost February, and this shooting situation is outrageous. The number of innocent lives lost to a shooting takes ten minutes, give or take. 

The only other two countries that have their right to carry are Mexico and Guatemala but their shooting doesn’t even come close to that of America. No country even comes close to the amount of gun-related deaths that America has. Canada has second place in that area but Canada doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. America’s gun problem is out of control and it doesn’t seem to be changing. There have been little to no laws put in place to prevent school shootings.

A handful of European countries rewrite their constitution every decade so they can keep up with the current times. America hasn’t been rewritten ever. In current times, it really should be. 

Evaluating All 30 NBA Teams Before the Playoffs

The playoffs are less than 15 games away and some teams still haven’t found their groove. The standings could change dramatically in the coming days, as the 4-12 seeds in the west are all within 4 games of each other. There have been many surprises this season, from blockbuster trades, to shake ups in the standings, so let’s take a look at everything that’s happened this season team by team.

 

The Western Conference

 

 

Pacific Division

 

Sacramento Kings: The Sacramento Kings have jumped from a team not even in the play-in last year, to the two seed and they have De’Aaron Fox and Domontas Sabonis to thank for that because they have been huge for them this year. 

 

Phoenix Suns: The Phoenix Suns are currently in the 4 seed, but that doesn’t tell their full story. They recently acquired Kevin Durant, but he has only played in a handful of games due to a sprained ankle during warm ups that is keeping him sidelined, they are looking deadly once Durant comes back. 

 

Los Angeles Clippers: The Los Angeles Clippers are tied with the Suns, and it seems that when both their stars, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard play, they are pretty good, unfortunately they will be without one of them for the next 2-3 weeks so they could be done for.

 

Golden State Warriors: Next we have the Golden State Warriors who are a game behind the Clippers and have been an interesting story this season. They have gone from the 3 seed and winning the championship last year, to the 6 seed and only two more wins on the road, as they have losses at home.

 

Los Angeles Lakers: The last team in the Pacific Division is the Los Angeles Lakers, who have had a similar story to last season, struggling to get anything going, but with the acquisition of D’Angelo and other pieces, they could make some noise if they can make it into the playoffs and get LeBron James back from injury, which could be soon.

 

Northwest Division

 

Denver Nuggets: The Denver Nuggets are another team that has been surprising this year, they have gone from the 6 seed to 1 seed in just a year, thanks to fabulous play once again from two time MVP Nikola Jokic who is looking to become just the fourth player ever to win three consecutively, but also from Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr, who have both constantly been injured in the past. They have also clinched a playoff spot.

 

Minnesota Timberwolves: The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Rudy Gobert during the off season, but he hasn’t quite clicked with the team, and they sit at the 7 seed for the second year in a row. 

 

Oklahoma City Thunder: Right now the OKC Thunder are the 11 seed, but they have had stellar play from guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as well as Josh Giddey and their rookies. They look to improve with their many, many picks they can use as trade pieces or to draft players, but also make it into the play-in.

 

Utah Jazz: The Utah Jazz started out with the league on notice, even without Donovan Mitchel and Rudy Gobert, but they have slowed down tremendously and are on the outside of the play-in looking in, but only a half game from it, and have seen the growth of Lauri Markkanen into a star.

 

Portland Trail Blazers: The Portland Trail Blazers don’t have CJ McCollum anymore, but it seems they have found a replacement in Anfernee Simons, despite this, they have still struggled and are a bottom three team in the west.

 

Southwest Division

 

Memphis Grizzlies: The Memphis Grizzlies are in the same spot they were last season, the 2 seed, have clinched a playoff spot, and they have almost everyone back, Ja Morant is back from his suspension, and Stephen Adams could be back if they make a run in the playoffs.

 

Dallas Mavericks: The Dallas Mavericks, who were looked at as potential contenders, are currently in the play-in and Kyrie continues to be injured, and even with him the team has not performed well.

 

New Orleans Pelicans: The New Orleans Pelicans are another team that started out hot, but have really struggled recently, possibly because Zion Williamson is once again injured, they are currently the 9 seed and in the play-in. 

 

San Antonio Spurs: Everyone knew the San Antonio Spurs would be bad, after they traded away their best players, Jakob Poeltl and Dejounte Murray, but they are really bad, sitting at the 14 seed with only 19 wins. 

 

Houston Rockets: The Houston Rockets are also incredibly bad, at the bottom team in the west with 18 wins, but on the bright side, their young core continues to grow.

 

The Eastern Conference

Atlantic Division

 

Philadelphia 76ers: The Philadelphia 76ers are on a roll right now, winning 8 games straight, Joel Embiid in MVP conversations, and James Harden leading the league in assists, they sit at the 3 seed and have clinched a playoff spot.

 

Boston Celtics: The Boston Celtics are currently a half game up on the 76ers, and they are the 2 seed and are looking to make it back to the finals for the second year in a row, and have some pretty good chances too.

 

New York Knicks: The New York Knicks have surprised the league this year. After not even making the playoffs last year, they have played well with the same roster, besides the acquisition of Jalen Brunson in the off season, they sit at the 5 seed, but have struggled recently with Brunson being out.

 

Brooklyn Nets: The Brooklyn Nets started out the season looking like contenders again, until they blew the team up right before the trade deadline, sending Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks and Kevin Durant to the Suns. Since then they have struggled, but acquisition Mikal Bridges has shone on his new team, they sit at the 7 seed, which is probably around where they will sit until the end of the season. 

 

Toronto Raptors: The Toronto Raptors have had a downgraded season compared to last year, not really changing anything about the roster, they are currently sitting at the 9 seed.

 

Central Division

 

Milwaukee Bucks: The Milwaukee Bucks are looking good, once again, sitting atop the conference looking to win their second title in three years and have clinched a playoff spot.

 

Cleveland Cavaliers: The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking dangerous, both right now and for the future of the franchise. Their young core will continue to grow and they are already extremely good, sitting at the 4 seed. 

 

Chicago Bulls: The Chicago Bulls, who were the six seed last year, are currently a game and a half into the play-in at the 10 seed and have struggled, and similarly to the Raptors they haven’t changed anything about the roster and Lonzo Ball continues to be unable to play due to injury. 

 

Indiana Pacers: The Indiana Pacers aren’t exactly in a winning situation, but could make it into the play-in if things play out right. Tyrese Haliburton has been great and rookie Bennedict Mathurin has too, so Indiana could be playoff bound once again in the coming years.

 

Detroit Pistons: The Detroit Pistons are the worst team in the conference, at the 15 seed, and Cade Cunningham has been out for most of the year, so they still look to rebuild and gain more young pieces.

 

Southeast Division

 

Miami Heat: The Heat, who were the 1 seed last season, are sitting at the 6 seed, only a half game up on the Nets, which is causing some frustration within the organization. 

 

Atlanta Hawks: The Atlanta Hawks acquired Dejounte Murray during the off season, and it hasn’t changed much, they still sit at the 8 seed. 

 

Washington Wizards: The Washington Wizards are in a tough situation, their core is getting older, they don’t have many young pieces, but they also aren’t good, and are currently the 12 seed, so they either need to go all in or rebuild the team. 

 

Orlando Magic: The Orlando Magic have struggled, which is to be expected, but rookie Paolo Banchero has looked amazing, and Markelle Fultz has started to grow as he actually plays. Jonathan Isaac, who hasn’t played for multiple seasons, came back for a few games then went out with injury again, so hopefully he can get healthy, and this team could be dangerous in the future, they are the 13 seed. 

 

Charlotte Hornets: The Charlotte Hornets have about half the amount of wins they had last season right now, due to LaMelo Ball spending extensive time sitting out with injury and the loss of Miles Bridges during the off season, the Hornets organization needs to figure something out because it’s not working right now, they are sitting at the 14 seed.

Overrated things that are popular (In my opinion)

Ever wonder why the item/food/tv show/movie that you think wasn’t even that good is in the top ratings? Well this is the article for you.

I’m saying popular things that I think are overrated. Number one the series of star wars (Sorry not sorry). Not all kids watch star wars, and if they are they are probably over the age of 8. Not all of the movies/shows that they make are good like the lowest rating one is one of the recent ones, the rise of the skywalker got a 3.3 rating. Number 2 of overrated things is cupcakes. Cupcakes are good when they are baked properly and that’s a rare chance, and people usually buy it from a common store like Walmart and they ONLY taste like frosting. Number three another movie/tv show that is overrated is Stranger things, look the best season is 3 and the worst has to be the first or the last season. I’m saying this because not only were lots of people saying it was scary when it wasn’t but the people watching the show(fandom) ruined it. Lots of people ruined itStranger Things - Wikipedia

 

Number four is overrated is the  sport golf. You can get a lot of money from doing this like Tiger Woods did but the crowd and the game is so boring to watch. All you do while you’re there is just stand up and watch men/women hit a little white ball and they walk back and forth. Number five is the second part of a Disney movie. Not all of them have a second part but if they do it will either be better than the first one or worse which is the case for lots of movies.

 

There are lots of more things but here are some foods that are a little overrated:

Number six: Goldfish. Another food for number seven or more so dessert is dark chocolate anything. It can help with some of your diet but other than that it is disgusting and is always on the shelves in the store isles. And everyone knows that milk chocolate and white chocolate are better (well I hope so).

Number eight: A drink that is popular but is overrated/overpriced is the Ice or any flavored water. Flavored water is disgusting, there are barely any good flavors in there.

Another thing is neon colors. They are pretty when they are worn the right way but they usually aren’t. They can be very pretty in the dark but depending on some of them they can look kind of weird when it is daytime out

Number nine: the one that I just wanted to say is the series of Rick and Morty. It was not that good to be watching all the time. And you will somewhat get bored of the show and mainly the people who are watching are late teens or early kidsRick and Morty (TV Series 2013– ) - IMDb

Number ten: Netiflix, I’m only putting this on the list because they have taken out some of their best shows/movies and replaced it with newer tv shows that suck. Number eleven: Metal bottles (stanely’s and hydro flasks) Why would you want to carry a huge METAL bottle of water in the sun. Like who cares about if your bottle matches your shirt of something. Number twelve: Arby’s: Their meat is dry and is way overrated. I think they are only have at least 5 decent items but they need to cook their meat longer. “Animated” is perhaps the best word to describe Tokyo. The island is sunny year-round but consists of a dry season and a wet, rainy season. Travelers will experience the best weather in the Maldives between November and April, thanks to little precipitation and warm temperatures. However this time of year is the busiest time of year and, as such, the room rates at resorts are expensive.

Why YNW Melly’s Arrest and What’s Going on with Him Now

Jamell Maurice Demons (More known as YNW Melly. His most known song is Murder on my Mind. Which he wrote in a jail cell. ) was arrested on February 13, 2019. He has been held at Broward County Jail, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, U.S. He was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, drug paraphernalia, and 2 counts of 1st-degree murder. He was originally not thought of as the suspect. Oddly he later turned himself in and was arrested. He has been in jail for 4 years but they only recently gave him a hearing. They have been a few times. His original Jury selection was scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, 2022. It was later postponed for the next day Wednesday, April 20, 2022. It was again postponed for an unknown later date. So he sits in his cell and awaits his release. There are plenty of other rappers and celebrities that want him out of prison. Some of them are YNW Bslime (his younger brother), Tekashi 69, and others. He recently sent out a Tweet from jail that says that may get out earlier than people are expecting (sometime in 2023). This is getting his fans excited. So we will see if he ends up getting released this year.

In this article, I want to talk about the best and my favorite era, the Inbetweens or 2010-2012. The songs were peppy and exciting. It’s the songs that the kids of the early 2000s grew up listening to.

For the first part, let’s discuss 2010s music. The beginning of a new decade. The beginning and the very start and reason it is called 2010s. The start of good music.

Making the road trip an enjoyable car ride, we all know car rides are the worst part of it all, especially when little kids are also in the car with you.

Horror has been elevating year after year, and it’s only getting better.

Sinister

 I watched this movie a few years ago, so it wasn’t really new to the public. I guess that this movie wasn’t even very popular back when it released. I watched this movie at 10 pm though, by myself! That was the second worst decision I have made with horror movies in my life. I’ll gt to the other mistake later in this article. 

 

This movie is about a true crime writer and him and his family move into a house where a grisly crime has previously been committed. However, he forgot the part where he warns his family that the place might be dangerous.  The bad guy in this movie is probably one of my favorites because he’s super mysterious and we never really see him for a prolonged amount of time.

 

This is probably the 2nd scariest movie o

n this list so I totally recommend it, just try not to watch it after 9:00 pm.

The Conjuring

This movie was an instant classic for me and my family once we watched it. This is usually a go to if we want a movie to not really pay attention to, but to have in the background. 

 

This movie was really scary when I was a lot younger and I didn’t know the jump scares very well. It’s not as bad anymore however because I have seen it s much.

Hereditary

This movie is about a grandma who curses her family right before she dies with her creepy little cult. This movie s mostly in the families very dark house and it get worse and worse continuously. I watched this for the first time in the middle of the night and I didn’t know what to expect, so when I watched it I was basically squinting the entire time or fear of jump scares.

I just barely watched this movie and the only reason I watched it was because I though the cover looked scary. And boy, if you love little kids do not watch this movie. This movie is about a clown who literally eats kid and kills them in gruesome ways. I just liked this movie because of the original idea and I really liked the character development.

 There are thousands of thousands of different types and styles of shoes but some of the most recent and most trendy have definitely been Nike dunks. Everyone loves the nike dunk, it comes in a high mid and a low with the low being the favorite. It also comes in a sb meaning skateboard and is meant for skating but is still very comfy and stylish. There are so many colorways of the nike dunk probably too many to count. They are also a very hype shoe and have tons of expensive pairs from 1,000 to hundreds of thousands dollars. The really expensive pairs are the pairs that are very limited and very special. The first Nike dunk came out in 1985 and is still a very popular model of shoes to this day. Some of the most limited pairs are the freddy krueger dunks with rumor to only be 30 in existence. Another really expensive pair is the nike dunk low paris and there is rumor to be 50 to 200 pairs in existence and if you want to get your hands on them it will cost around 100,000 dollars. This is a little information on one of the most popular shoes. 

Another very hype shoe for 2023 is the Air jordan 1 and this shoe make comes in a high, low and mid there is also thousands and thousands of colorways of this shoe and some ranging from 100 to thousands of dollars. The Jordan 1 high is probably the favorite out of the three makes because it is easiest to style and is a high top. Then the jordan 1 low because it is a low top and very easy to style, but then the jordan 1 mid is the least favorite just because its in the middle of all the makes. The first time the jordan 1 released the retail price was 65 dollars  and because of inflation they have risen all the way up to 180 to 200 dolor retail price which is a very high retail price. Many designer brands and famous people have made collabs with the Jordan 1 such as OFF-WHITE, Travis Scott, Union, Fragment and many more, these are just some of the most hype pairs and collabs. Some of these collabs go for around a couple thousand dollars with around 5-7000 dollars being the highest. Travis Scott and OFF-WHITE being the most expensive. Many sneakerheads love these collabs for the colors and for who they are a collab with. The creator of OFF-WHITe is Virgil Abloh who recently passed making all of the shoes he has made go up in value by a good percentage. The Jordan 1 is a pretty comfortable shoe to many and many think that the shoe is an uncomfortable shoe but it all depends on the person and their type. The original 1984 pairs, if found in great condition, can go for a pretty penny from around 10-40000 dollars depending on the condition of the shoe. This is a little bit of information on the very hype Jordan 1 that released in 1985

If i had to pick between the 2 shoes on which one is my favorite i would go with the nike dunk in the low or the sb. I would choose them over the Jordan 1 high because the Nike dunk low is hands down the most comfortable and most stylish out of the 2. It also has many more colorways that fit me and that i like. I also would choose the nike dunk because they are sometimes cheaper than some jordan 1s just depending on the stock or hype behind the shoe. This is why i would choose the Nike dunl low over the Jordan 1.
