Early 2000s Cartoons VS. Now

Early 2000s Cartoons VS. Now

By: Aubrey Dean

When you think of cartoons now, what do you immediately think of? Maybe Paw Patrol, or shows like Teen Titans Go! Or We Bare Bears, The Loud House and things like that. But, what about shows like Spongebob Squarepants (Well, the old seasons) or shows like Fairly Odd Parents, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius? Those shows are so good.

There are also shows like Dexter’s Laboratory. Or shows like Danny Phantom. Or the old Powerpuff Girls. The remake is just trash.

The old Powerpuff Girls were so good. They should’ve just stopped after finishing the show. They made a remake, finding out that Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup had a long lost sister called Bliss. It’s really bad! Mojo Jojo isn’t even in the show anymore, neither are the other villains.

Bliss is supposed to be their long lost sister even though they are creations.

Another show that is kinda bad now is SpongeBob Squarepants. The show is good, don’t get me wrong. It used to be good. After the 7th season it’s just garbage. The producers are just trying too hard now. They should’ve just stopped after the 7th instead of making more so you can’t catch up on the others without an entirely new season coming out a month later.

The new seasons like 8-12 are garbage. Like Patrick has his own tv show. They have like five spin off series and like it’s not good. The Spongebob movie where they go to get King Neptune’s crown was the best movie. The one where they get super powers was okay  but if I had a choice to get rid of one of the movies it would be the second one.

Now onto the pros and cons. The pros of the new cartoons are that the graphics are better. Like they have grown but honestly they aren’t the same.

The cons are, the cartoon companies are running out of ideas. Cartoons from like 1998-2011 were probably way better. Like the producers just had such a wide range of ideas for what they could write a TV series about as of now we have like fifteen different kids cartoons about superheroes or spies. There’s just not a wide variety of show ideas now. Talking animals, already done like 55 times. Super heroes, the basic cartoon idea. It’s just not the same anymore.

If we just didn’t make a new cartoon series every two months like we do now, we would save options for later instead of wasting them on cartoons that aren’t even that good.

Weezer the Band

By: Aubrey Dean

The band Weezer was founded in 1992. The band consists of the members Rivers Coumo (Lead vocals, lead guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals)

The first album they ever published was the Blue Album. That came out on May 10, 1994.

Blue Album Songs

  • Surf Wax America
  • Only in Dreams
  • No One Else
  • The World has Turned and Left Me Here
  • My Name Is Jonas
  • Say It Ain’t So
  • Buddy Holly
  • Holiday
  • Undone
  • In the Garage

The most popular song in the Blue Album is Say It Ain’t So.

Another really popular song by Weezer is Island In the Sun.  Rivers Cuomos has written all the songs they have released. He is also the lead singer.

Weezer also likes to make covers of songs, including Happy Together, Mr. Blue Skies. They have also made a cover of Africa. Also one of Billie Jean.

One member of Weezer, ex-member Matt Sharp, was a bassist in the band until he left in 1998. He left because he had a second band called the Rentals. He wanted to work with the Rentals full time so he decided to leave Weezer to pursue that dream. Matt Sharp was in the first two albums Weezer released. The Blue Album and Pinkerton.

One fun fact you may be wondering about is, why is the band Weezer called Weezer in the first place? Well, I in fact have the answer to that. The reason the band is called Weezer is because it was a nickname the main member Rivers Cuomo got from kids at school because he got bullied for having asthma. Also, a name River Cuomos got from his biological father, so they took that name and made it the band name.

Another fun fact about the band is their first opening gig was opening for Keanu Reeves vanity band. The band was formed on Valentines day, 1992. The reason the album is called the Blue Album is because it was Cuomo’s favorite color growing up.

Rivers Cuomo also graduated from Harvard with a bachelor’s degree. They also got some of their inspiration from the Beatles. The era Weezer is in is the mid 90s is what it is classified as. The second most popular song by Weezer is Islands In the Sun. Weezer has been reported to have 15 studio albums, two compilation albums, 1 video album, nine extended plays, 37 singles and 40 music videos.

Is Stranger Things worth watching?

Is Stranger Things worth watching?

4/20/23

Stranger Things, a supernatural drama, mystery and a little bit of horror. The show started July 15, 2016. The show has four seasons.

The show starts as young 11 year old Will Byers goes missing on his way home at night from his friend Mike Wheelers. The first season shows Mike, Lucas, and Dustin finding a girl in the woods named Eleven on their hunt to search for their best friend Will Byers. They find out the Eleven had escaped from a nearby lab, Hawkins Lab. Finding out, Eleven can move things with her mind and hack into peoples mind they try to use her to find Will in the Upside down.

Will’s mother Joyce Byers and his older brother Johnathan are also in their hunt to find Will. Drama and action happens as Chief of police Jim Hopper teams up with Joyce to find Will. Finding Will and rescuing him from the upside down ends season 1. The rest of the show finds how to stop the Upside Down and all its horrors within. Death, action, drama and tons of mysteries. The show is wonderful.

It never let me down. Some parts I questioned but other than that it was fine. A new coming fifth season sure to be as good as the rest. I’m excited to watch it and see how entertaining it is to rewatch the show over and over again for years to come.

Why hooks are so important for books-Aubrey Dean

Hooks are important in books for many reasons. They are the start of a story, the part that hooks the reader in. Which is exactly why it’s called, well, a hook. They are important because if you get a really good hook, it can help with the rest of the story.

The hooks provide engaging information that ties in the rest of the story, or writing. It engages excitement for the reader, and it gets the reader reeled in so they are engaged for the rest of the book. It makes the article fun from the beginning.

In an article called “The benefits of hooks” by VOKI blog, it says “How many of you have found yourself in this situation: it is Saturday night and you are watching TV.  All of a sudden, this intriguing movie trailer comes scrolling across your screen.  It is a teaser about this amazing movie coming out this summer.  You are captivated and memorized.  You have to find out as much as you can about this movie that has captured your attention.  You are hooked, line and sinker”.

It makes the entire article enjoyable. It also helps so you aren’t so stressed to make all the information eye-catching the entire time. It helps calm that stress by causing so much excitement right off the bat. Then you can give little exciting details here or there but, you can just give information about it without worrying about losing the attention of your audience.

Also another reason hooks are so important is because it helps students in school. Another quote from the same article states “Students can focus on creating more productive work and hooks make the learning environment fun right from the start”.

That quote is saying that in school even writing hooks can help. Not just in books but in articles as well. It helps create a fun activity by trying to make the hook as engaging as possible.

That is why hooks are so important for books.

By: Aubrey Dean

In this article, I want to talk about the best and my favorite era, the Inbetweens or 2010-2012. The songs were peppy and exciting. It’s the songs that the kids of the early 2000s grew up listening to.

Songs of 2010s

For the first part, let’s discuss 2010s music. The beginning of a new decade. The beginning and the very start and reason it is called 2010s. The start of good music.

From that article I picked 18 of the most popular and most well known songs of 2010. The songs that most of the early 2000s generation grew up listening to on the radio. Maybe on the way home from school, a long road trip. Making the road trip an enjoyable car ride, we all know car rides are the worst part of it all, especially when little kids are also in the car with you.

The happy peppy songs that made any car ride way better than before.

Songs of 2011

2011, the year after the beginning of a new decade. The top song of 2011 was” We found love” by Rihanna. The classics are also added here.

The billboard charts have marked those the most common top songs of 2011s. Making them the most known and popular songs of 2011.

Songs of 2012

2012s was another great year. It was kinda the rebirth of music history. The songs were still great.

The number one song of 2012 was “Smebody that I used to know” by Gotye. My favorite year out of these three is probably 2010. It had the most common songs of my childhood. Songs that I would blast in the car on road trips or even just to the store.

It made music happy and exciting. I love the inbetweens. The music was unique and my favorite.
