Almost every state has a creepy myth or urban legend. Ghost stories, monsters, weird creatures are only some of the things that lie in these spooky stories.
Dead Children’s Playground
In Huntsville, Al during late hours of the night, swings will move by themselves. It is believed that the spirits of buried children will come and play at the playground. Do you think this Urban legend is just some wind making the swings sway, or do you believe that some children haunt this playground during the night?
Kushtaka
In southern Alaska there is an urban legend of shape-shifting creatures that appear to be a man mixed with an otter. They make noises resembling those of children and wives to lure unsuspecting fishermen to them. But in some stories about the Kushtaka it is believed that they’re a helpful guide which provide guidance and food. Do you think these otter-men are out there or is it just a myth?
Slaughterhouse Canyon
In Kingman, AZ there is a story of a man who wanted so badly to be wealthy, one day he traveled out and never returned home to his cabin during the gold rush, this caused his family to starve. The mother then went insane listening to her children cry and beg for food each day, so she lost her mind, put on her old wedding dress, then proceeded to chop up her kids with a knife and throw their remains in a river. She sat by the river and sobbed hysterically at what she had just done, the next morning she starved to death. They say you can still hear the mothers cries for forgiveness. Dog Boy
Dog Boy is based on the sad story of Gerald Bettis, In Quitman, AR, who was rumored to abuse his elderly parents and experiment on stray animals. Gerald Bettis collected and tortured animals, and is said that he threw his father out of an upstairs window at one point. Gerald Bettis died in 1981 due to an illness in his home, while others say he was pushed down the stairs and died of a broken neck. Now it is said that a werewolf -like- ghost haunts Geralds childhood home. Do you believe the ghost of gerald wonders his home with the appearance of a ghost werewolf, or is it just a tragic story?
Corpse Light
Cape Henlopen, DE, Is where the urban legend of the corpse light takes place. There is no lighthouse in cape but here is a phantom light that crashed a ship called Devonshireman in 1665 on christmas day. 200 hundred men lost their lives that day. It is said that the light is a curse from a Native american tribe in the local area, after british soldiers had slaughtered some attendants to a wedding. Do you think the phantom light that caused the men on Devonshiremen to die was just a freak coincidence or that there’s a curse placed on the light?
The Cursed Pillar
The cursed pillar takes place in Augusta, GA. There was a preacher who wanted to have a sermon next to a pillar that he said would be the only thing left standing of the town after it was destroyed. He was denied the approval of having a sermon next to the pillar and later a tornado hit the town of August destroying most everything with the exception of the pillar that the priest said would still stand. Do you believe this was just some freak accident or that the preacher really did know that this was going to happen?
Water Babies of Massacre Rock
The Legend of “Water Babies of Massacre Rock” Takes place in Pocatello ID. When Native Americans lived there, there was an extreme shortage of food. The Native Americans decided that they didn’t have enough food to feed any new kids, so when babies were born the mothers drowned them in the river, so they didn’t have to watch them starve. They say if you go to the banks of that river and sit eventually you will hear the cries of the baby’s spirits that were once drowned in that river, still searching for their mothers. Do you think the spirits of these babies are still looking for their mothers?
Skinned Tom
Skinned Toms legend takes place in Walland, TN. Skinned Tom’s legend is of a man named Thomas Beltran, who was very good looking. Thomas had a sort of business where he would have affairs with married women and con them. One particular day as he was going to a woman’s house he bragged to a man on the train about it. Well the man on the train who was bragging happened to be the woman’s husband. So when Thomas was at the house of the women the husband came home early and attacked Thomas. Eventually Thomas got out of the house and ran into the woods and the husband followed him with a knife. The woman waited at the house for them to return. Later in the evening she answered her door to find Thomas with all of his skin gone or shreds of it hanging off, and his tongue cut off. He died on the porch. They say if you go into the woods near their “Lovers lane parking” situation, Skinned Thomas might come to your car and attack you.
